Figure 3,'th`e check detached.` 'p This invention relates to a device for checking hats at hotels and other places where hats of numerous persons are necessarily deposited together, the object being to secure a mark to the hat, the duplicate of which `the wearer may take when he leaves his hat; and
The invention consists in a spring clamp combined `with two checks, duplicate of' each other, one of which aids in securing itself to the hat, the other to he taken` by the wearer. c y
A A are two parts of a clamp, formed from sheet metal, doubled at a, and their two ends, b, curved, but` =so thatthe twoy may be brought together, as denoted in broken lines, fig. 2, `the elasticitypf the parts, howeer, 4tending to separate the two ends.
H is the permanent check, andA is made to move up y and down, as from the position in iig. 2 to that'in broken lines i'n the same ligure, which movement forces the two ends tightly together.
The other check O` is a duplicate, numheredthe same asl the permanent check, here numbered 5. This m'ay be perforated with a recess, D, so as to pass on over the two ends, and be held, as in lig. il, hy the extension of the two ends, .but so that by compressing the ends together the check C may be removed, or it p may be passed on over the other end.
For convenience of suspension, I arrange a ring,cE, at the doubled end of 'the clamp.
When a gentleman desires to leave his hat, the person in charge takes one Aof these devices, gives to the wearer the duplicate G, andsecures the original to the ,hat by pressing it down, and clamping the two ends upon the riin or other portion of: the hat.
