Description

PATENT GFFIGE. l
ADOLPH WALDMANN, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN TOURNURES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 117,490, dated July 25, 1871.
To all whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, ADoLPH VWALDMANv, of the city of Philadelphia and State ot Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Tournures, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of my invention consists in the combination of double curved ribs with waistband and bows in such a manner as to give a positive form to the setting of the skirt and an easy tit to the body, as hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawing which makes a part of this specification, Figure l is a top view ofthe improved tournure., Fig. 2 is a side elevation ofthe same. Fig. 3 is a side view of a double bow-rib, B. Fig. 4 is an isometrica] view, on an enlarged scale, of one of the clasps, a ,one pair of clasping-arms, f, onlybein g shown turned over to represent the mode of clasping the bowed ribs B and bows C together.
Like letters in all the gures indicate the same parts.
-A is the waistband, to which are attached the double ribs B formed of single Wires and so bent as to form loops b, which have an easy iit to the body in consequence of their curved form. The upper bows are of such shape as to give a graceful set to the skirt; and the lower bows brace the upper ones and are curved outward to pre` vent their touching the body of the wearer, eX-
cept at the loop parts b. The two parts of the ribs are held together above the loops by means of the clasps d, as seen in Fig. 2, and at their upper ends by the clasp d', before being connected with the waistband, and to the latter by the clasps d". C C C C G C are bows which are connected at their ends with the waistband A by means ofthe clasps c. The bows G are connected to the vertical ribs B by means of the clasps aff', shown in detail in Fig. 4. The vertical ribs B, being of double-bow form and conuected together at their upper and lower ends, possess the greatest amount of strength of certain size wire, and still possess the requisite elasticity. This fact makes it practicable to construct the frame of very light material.
Vhat I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The combination of the curved double ribs B, constructed substantially as described, with the bows C and waistband A, substantially in the manner and for the piu'pose set forth.
In testimony that the above is my invention I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal this 16th day of May, 1871.
