INVENTOR.
Mil/W m ATTORNEW- UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
MARY SZEKELY, 0F LACKAWANNA, NEW YORK.
HAT-PIN RETAINER.
To all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARY SZEKELY, a subject of the King of Hungary, residing at Lackawanna, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Hat-Pin Retainers, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to a hatpin .retainer for hats, and the object of my invention is to furnish the crown of a hat with positive and reliable means in a manner as will be hereinafter set forth, for holding one or more pins placed in the hat to retain the same upon the head.
I attain the above object by a mechanical construction that is simple, durable, easy to install and applicable to various styles of hats.
The invention will be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed, and ref erence will now be had to the drawing, wherein Figure 1 is a perspective view of the hat provided with a pin retainer. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of a portion of the frame of the hat, and Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross sectional view of a portion of the retainer.
A retainer in accordance with this invention comprises a coil of wire 1 arranged in a circular form with the end convolutions of the wire suitably connected together, where- Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 25, 1911.
Patented Jan. 9, 1912.
Serial No. 623,160.
The circular coil of wire is adapted to be held in engagement with the vertical frames 2 ofa hat 4; by said frames frictionally engaging between two convolutions of the coil of wire, and it is in a similar manner that a pin 3 is held by the coil.
In placing a pin in the hat, the pin is passed between two of the convolutions of the coil and frictionally held by said coil, whereby the pin cannot become accidentally displaced or lost.
In connection with hats made of felt or other material and not provided with wire skeleton frames, the retainer can be secured to the inner side of the crown of the hat by stitches.
What I claim is The combination with the wire skeleton frame of a hat, of a circular coil of wire frictionally held in engagement with said frame by the convolutions of said coil engaging said frame and adapted to frictionally hold pins between the convolutions of said coil of Wire.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
MARY SZEKELY.
