To allv it concern; A v
Be it lmown that I, PAUL E..HERRMANN,
a subject of the German-Emperor, residing.
'at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have ir rented certain new and useful Improvements in Hair- Curlers, of which the following is a specification. f
The present invention relates to a curler for a hair wavin apparatus of the kind specified in my Unlted States Letters Patent 959,527, issued May 31, 1910, and has for its object to provide a cur'ler,'which will allow of the curls being more easily attached and securely held in position on the curler than by tying the ends of the curls as in the above named patent.
To make my invention more clear, the same is illustrated inthe accompanying drawing, in which similar reference letters denote corresponding parts and in whichl Figure 1 is a top plan view 'of the curler,
,Y line3-3ofFig. 2.
the curls not being shown therein, Fig.- 2 is a side view thereof with 4the curls secured position. and Fig. 3 is a cross`section on The curler consists, vas that in the 'above namedpatent, of aperforated hollow metal tube a. In one'end, as at b of this tube a spring member, e. g. a bifurcated pin '0,
or the like, 1s pivoted or otherwise rotatively secured, and at the opposite end the tube is provided with lateral oblong notches or slots d extending longitudinally of the tube. A slide member e substantially of the shape shown in 3 and consisting of a piece of sheet metal, or the like, engages with its inwardlyibent ends e" the slots d, while the curved u wardly extending portion thereof forms a oop e2 for the engagement ofthe 'Specicatlonof-Lefers Patent. Patented Alllg'. 22, 1911.7 Application led January 3, 1911. ASerial No. $0,441.
free :end of the pin a curl C has been wound around the tube a.'-
c. The width( of the l slots d 1s such as to allow play -to the slide e' extend over said curl and in accordance with the thickness of the curl will be .pressed ,down more or less againstl its ownv spring' force to cause it to vengage the slide e. In
thusengaging the slide, the pin will exert a certain pressure on the curl, securing it on the tube a and at the same time draw the slide e upwardly, so that the latter by friction agalnst the upper edges of the slots d will be prevented from an accidental displacement. Owing to the play allowed to the slide within the slots d in vertical direction, the curler can be used for curls of various thicknesses.
What Iclaim and desire to .secure by Letters Patent is: f
'A' ourler of the character described, com-' perforated tube having lateral y slots, a sprlng pin pivotally secured to one prising a end thereof, a slide engaging said slots and capable of vertical displacement therein,
said slide being adapted to engage the said pinand Ahold the latter in .position longitug din'ally over the tube.
In testimon whereof I aix my' signature in presence o two witnesses.
