Application filed .June e, i923. serieu N0. 642,922.'
This invention relates to lingerie clasps of the type comprising a U-shaped body adapted to embrace ,the lingerie straps and a fastening device adjacent the free ends of the body. The primary object ofthe invention is to provide means for preventing such clasps from slipping on the straps. Various expedients have been provided for such purpose, but they usually have the disadvantage of beingA ineifective when the straps are too thin or of causing the clasp to open if the straps are'too thick.
Another object ofthe invention is to provide the inward extensions which prevent the slipping in a form which may be cheaply constructed and will not interfere with the artistic appearance ofl the clasp. The invention is illustrated in the drawings hereof and is hereinafter more fully decribed, and the essential novel features are summarized in the claims.
In the drawings, Fig. 1 is a plan of my lingerie clasp; Fig. 2 is a bottom plan thereof; Fig. 3 is an edge elevation with the clasp open; Fig. 1 isa cross section through the clasp shown as closed on three lingerie straps.
As shown in the drawing, the body vof the clasp is a spring strip of sheet metal bent to form a top leg 10, a bottom leg 11, and an intermediate connecting bend 12. To secure the free ends of the body together VI provide on the inner face of one leg a stud member 2O and on the inner face of the other inember a Socket member 21 provided with an internal spring 22 adapted to engage the stud, these two members comprising a snap fastener soldered or otherwise secured to the two legs of the body.
Projecting inwardly from the Vbottom leg 11 of the body I have shown two projections 15 each made by cutting a substantially semi-circular hole 16 in the leg and turning such` cut-out portion atl right angles to the leg. These two projections 15 are located laterally in the central region of the leg and llongitudinally in alignment with each other. On opposite sides of the projectionsl are projections 17 which are turned inwardly from the upper leg 10, there being four of such projections made by cutting out segmental openings 18 in the top leg and bending the cut-out portions inwardly.
IVhen the clasp is closed, the projections on the lower leg extend beyond the projections on the upper leg, so that the lingerie straps indicated at A are bent upwardly and then downwardly within the clasp. This effectively prevents the clasp slipping on the straps. This non-slipping action is effective for thin or thick straps and yfor varying numbers of straps and depends for its action on the kinking of the straps rather than positively clamping them between thelegs.
kI have arranged the cut-out lugs 17 of the y found it preferable to make the projections from the upper leg slightly slioiter than those from the lower leg, as this takes less metal from the upper leg wlierev'tlie four projections are turned down,
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. A lingerie clasp having twol-egs of one single piece of resilient sheet metal and projections made of th-e metal of thelegs and turned inwardly from the legs, one leg having 'a pair of projections straddling one projection on the other leg, and there being interengaging means for holding the fre-e end of the clasp together. A
2. A lingerie clasp having tu'folegs of a single piece of sheet metal bent into a U- shape with means for holding the free ends of the legs together and tongues made of the metal of the legs and turn-ed inwardly, one leg having a pair of tongues which spring from such leg adjacent its edges respectively, said pair straddling a tongue of the other leg and overlapping the same sufficiently to distort a ribbon lying between the two legs. 3. A lingerie clasp having two legs of one single piece of resilient sheet metal and projections made of the metal of the legs and turned inwardly from the legs, one leg hay;-
`ing a pair of projections straddling one projection on the other leg, said projections being located a material distance short of the ends of the legs so that the edges of the clasped ribbon may be beyond the projections. y
4. A lingerie clasp comprising a U-shaped body of spring metal providedk adjacent its free ends with a snap fastener for holdine it closed, one leg,` of the body having a cut-out and inwardly turned centrally located projection, the other leg of the body having` a pair of cut-Out inwardly turned projections lying on opposite sides ot the projection on the other leg` the extremes ot' said projections being seine distance back troni the opposite leg when the clasp is closed.
5. A lingerie clasp having a pair o't'legis and means tor holding thein together, and tour spaced project-ions on the upper leg' cut out therefrom in segment torni and turned inwardly about straight lines parallel with and comparatively close to the edges of the leg` to make two pairs of spaced inward projections, and the lower leg having,` inwardly projecting ineans lying' in the region between the projections of the upper leg, all of the projections falling` short ot reaching the opposite legoi the clasp when the clasp is closed. i
6l A lingerie clasp comprising` a lJ-sllapet 'spring inetal body, a snap fastener oi the stud and soclet` type secured to the inner faces of the legs of the body adjacent their *i inwardly projecting lugs cutoutot the r spective legs and turned inwardly, one leg havingtour inwardly turned lugs located in two laterally spaced pairs, the lugs of each pair being lngitudinally spacer, and the other lea` having` two inwardly turned longitudinally spaced lugs .located in the region between the ineinbers of the corresponding iairs.
7. A lingerie clasp comprising a sheet nietal U-sliaped'body provided with a 'tastening device adjacent its tree ends, two pairs ot' longitudinally spaced projections eut out i'roin one leg,v and turned downwardly adjacent the two edges ot said legi respectively, and projections cut out trein the other leg and 'turned upwardly between each of the two pairs ot projections first inentioned7 said intermediate projections extending iarther from their leg` than do the two pairs ot' projections troni their leg, where by the leg;` having* the two pairs ot' cut-out projections is not unduly weakened.
In testimony whereof, I hereunto alii); my signature.
