Abstract
In a ship which is equipped with a seal arrangement comprising a metallic housing 4 fixed to the stern tube and one or more sealing rings 5 of rubber elastic material which are connected with the housing and cooperate with the running sleeve 2 of the propeller shaft 1, wherein block-like sacrificial anodes exposed to the seawater are secured to the component to be protected and wherein the ring sleeve forms a cathode, the housing of the sealing arrangement is electrically conductively connected with the running sleeve via a current which bridges the gap space between the housing and the running sleeve. The current bridge may be a floating ring 8, a slip contact, electrically conductive sealing ring or a current conducting oil-water emulsion in the ring chamber. The system may operate with galvanic current or from an external power source. <IMAGE>
