Abstract
A cleaning procedure for mixtures of gases involves compression, cooling and expansion. The compressed gas mixt. is cooled to a suitable temp. with a heat exchanger and/or injection of water. Contaminants such as sulphur dioxide are dissolved by the water. A rapid reduction in pressure in the expansion chamber causes solid particles to be deposited. It is arranged that the temp. of the gas mixt. as it leaves the expansion chamber is sufficiently low for undesired gases to condense. Provides process for cleaning combustion gases. (Provisional Basic previously advised in Week K12).
