Abstract
1,023,598. Cathodes. ENGLISH ELECTRIC VALVE CO. Ltd. Feb. 12, 1965 [May 11, 1964], No. 19505/64. Heading H1D. A magnetron cathode comprises a stack of tungsten or molybdenum rings 2, alternating with spacers 3 of the same material, to leave gaps 4 which are filled with a mixture consisting of at least 50% by volume of barium-calcium aluminate. During manufacture the rings 2 and spacers 3 are assembled on a tube 1 and clamped or brazed together. This assembly is then brought into contact with a molten mixture consisting, by weight, of 40% aluminate and 60% tungsten or molybdenum powder, so that the gaps 4 are filled by capillary action. The ratio of aluminate to tungsten or molybdenum in the working surface of the cathode isat least unity for goodsecondary emission.
