Abstract

1,027,403. Stackable containers. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. March 9, 1964 [March 18, 1963], No. 9894/64. Headings B8D and B8P. A stackable container, e.g. of plastics material, comprises a rectangular bottom wall 10 and two pairs of parallel vertical walls 11, 13 and 12, 14, the upper ends of the walls 11-14 being first stepped outwardly to provide a circumlerential inner ledge 16 to support a superimposed identical container and then being continued upwards as extensions, e.g. 12a, vertical grooves 15 being provided in the walls 11-14 extending downwardly from the ledge 16 to removably receive divider members 21, 22. Similar grooves 17, horizontally offset from the first set, are provided in the wall extensions above the ledge and the grooves 15 and 17 have corresponding external ridges 15a and 17a, such that during stacking the ridges 15a of the upper container fit in the grooves 17 of the lower one. At each groove location in the ledge 16 an outward horizontal joggle 16a is provided to engage the ridge 15a of the container above. The tops of the walls, e.g. 12a, are turned outwardly to form a circumferential bead 18. Recesses may be formed in the walls immediately above the ledge 16 to receive a snap-in lid.
