Abstract

The liquid-impermeable layer (3) covers the length edges (6) of the absorbent body (4), extends over the sides of the absorbent body facing towards and away from the body of the user, and terminates at the standing gathers (8). An absorbent article (1) such as an absorbent structure, nappy or incontinence pad comprises a liquid-permeable surface layer (2) facing the body of the user, a liquid-impermeable layer facing away from the body of the user, and an absorbent body in between these two layers. The absorbent body has end edges (5) extending in the lateral direction and side edges extending in the length direction, and at least two upwards-pointing standing gathers extend in the length direction along the side edges. The liquid-impermeable layer covers the side of the absorbent body facing away from the user and also covers the absorbent body side edges, as well as extending over the surface of the side of the absorbent body facing the body of the user, before terminating at the standing gathers.
