Abstract

Method for supplying material of low bulk density to screw extrusion apparatus comprises forcibly conveying the material from a funnel towards the main screw with the aid of an auxiliary screw extending into the funnel and placed within an almost vertical transfer tube, the funnel conveying in the direction of the transfer screw, while the material is stirred in a direction of rotation opposite to the direction of rotation opposite to the direction of rotation of the auxiliary screw. - The method and apparatus are used in the recovery of waste synthetic fibres, esp. polyamide fibres, by fusion and re-extrusion. In previous apparatus, difficulty was experienced in the continuous supply of the fibres to the extruder. The present method and apparatus enable synthetic fibres to be continuously supplied to the extruder without difficulty.
