Abstract

La invencion proporciona, en un aspecto un proceso para preparar un microgel mediante polimerizacion RAFT en presencia de un agente de transferencia de cadena RAFT, uno o más monomeros solvofobicos y uno o más monomeros solvofílicos, para formar uno o mas copolímeros en bloque que comprenden uno o más bloques solvofobicos y uno o más bloques solvofílicos, en donde el bloque solvofobico es insoluble en un medio de dispersion, y el bloque solvofílico es soluble en el medio de dispersion. El copolímero en bloque es dispersado en el medio de dispersion para formar micelas, que es luego estabilizado para formar el microgel. El medio de dispersion puede ser acuoso o lipofílico. El método de la presente invencion también permite a alguien encapsular una amplia variedad de materiales, tales como pigmentos, moléculas colorantes, y hojuelas de aluminio utilizadas en pinturas metalizadas.
