Claims (27)
- 평판 액정 디스플레이를 구성하는 화소의 반사상태를 변화시키는 방법에 있어서,a) 액정물질의 제어 화소위치에 제어전압을 인가하기 위해서 평판 액정 디스플레이를 구성하는 액정물질층과 관련하여 전압 제어 어드레싱 전극을 배열하는 단계;b) 화소를 상대적으로 높은 반사도의 초기상태로부터 상대적으로 낮은 반사도의 최종상태로 변환시키며, 화소가 초기에 저 반사상태인 경우 화소를 저 반사상태로 유지시키도록 디스플레이의 화소에 인가하는 제 1전압 레벨을 한정시키는 단계;c) 화소를 상대적으로 낮은 반사도의 초기상태로부터 상대적으로 높은 반사도의 최종상태로 변환시키며, 화소가 초기에 고 반사상태인 경우 화소를 고 반사상태로 유지시키도록 디스플레이의 화소에 인가하는 제 2전압 레벨을 한정시키는 단계;d) 모든 화소의 반사상태를 나타내는 제어신호를 상기 제 1 및 제 2전압으로 변환하고, 적어도 근접 비디오 업데이트 속도로 상기 액정 디스플레이를 리프레쉬하도록 동기방식으로 상기 제 1 및 제 2전압을 상기 전압 제어 어드레싱 전극에 인가하는 단계를 포함하는 방법.
- 제 1항에 있어서, 화소와 관련되는 어드레싱 전극이 대략 1밀리초의 지속시간동안 펄싱되는 방법.
- 제 1항에 있어서, 전압 제어 어드레싱 전극은 교차하는 행 전극 및 열 전극에 배열되는데 행 전극은 액정물질층의 일측상에 위치하게 되며 열 전극은 액정물질층의 반대측상에 위치하게 되는 방법.
- 제 3항에 있어서, 행 및 열 전극이 교류 구형파 파형을 갖는 다수의 전압 펄스로 구동되는 방법.
- 제 3항에 있어서, 양의 60볼트에서 음의 60볼트 범위의 실질적으로 제 1구형파 파형을 형성하는 일련의 양극성 펄스의 인가에 의해 화소가 저 반사상태로부터 고 반사상태로 변화되는 방법.
- 제 3항에 있어서, 음의 50볼트에서 양의 50볼트 범위의 실질적으로 제 2구형파 파형을 형성하는 일련의 양극성 펄스의 인가에 의해 화소가 고 반사상태로부터 저 반사상태로 변화되는 방법.
- 제 3항에 있어서, 구동되는 행 및 열의 교점에서의 전압이 제 1 또는 제 2전압값을 제공하도록 구동 펄스가 행 및 열 전극에 동시에 인가되는 방법.
- 제 1항에 있어서, 제어신호가 디스플레이를 구성하는 각각의 화소의 바람직한 반사상태를 저장하기 위한 비디오 메모리로부터 각 화소에 있어서 제 1 또는 제 2전압값 중 어느 것이 화소에 인가될지를 결정하는 일련의 값으로 변환되는 방법.
- 제 3항에 있어서, 제어신호가 디스플레이를 구성하는 각각의 화소의 바람직한 반사상태를 저장하기 위한 비디오 메모리로부터 디스플레이를 구성하는 모든 화소를 적어도 근접 비디오 업데이트 속도로 업데이트를 달성하도록 동기화되는 일련의 행 전극 구동 펄스 및 열 전극 구동 펄스로 변환되는 방법.

- 화소가 행 전극 세그먼트 세트의 제 1행 전극 세그먼트 및 열 전극 세그먼트 세트의 제 1열 전극 세그먼트의 교점에 의해 한정되고, 행 및 열 전극 세그먼트 세트가 액정물질층에 의해 분리되어 사이를 두고 배치되는 평판 액정 디스플레이를 구성하는 화소 어레이의 반사상태를 변화시키기 위한 구동회로에 있어서,a) 행 전극 세그먼트 세트에 전기적으로 연결되어 행 파형을 발생기키는 행 구동회로;b) 열 전극 세그먼트 세트에 전기적으로 연결되어 열 파형을 발생시키는 열 구동회로;c) 화소의 반사상태를 변화시키는 화소에 결과 파형을 발생시키도록 제 1행 전극 세그먼트 및 제 1열 전극 세그먼트에 행 파형 및 열 파형의 인가 및 발생을 동기화하기 위한 행 구동회로 및 열 구동회로에 연결되는 제어회로; 및d) 실질적으로 60Hz의 주파수를 갖는 다수의 전압 펄스를 포함하는 결과 파형을 포함하는 구동회로.
- 제 11항에 있어서, 결과 파형의 다수의 전압 펄스의 펄스폭이 실질적으로 1밀리초인 구동회로.
- 제 12항에 있어서, 제 1결과 파형이 동일 시각에 해당 지점에서 행 파형과 열 파형 사이의 대수적 차이가 존재하는 구동회로.
- 제 13항에 있어서, 결과 파형의 다수의 전압 펄스 각각이 실질적으로 교류 구형파 파형을 포함하는 구동회로.
- 제 14항에 있어서, 화소가 비반사상태로부터 반사상태로 변화되고 결과 파형의 다수의 전압 펄스 각각이 실질적으로 양의 60볼트에서 음의 60볼트 범위를 갖는 구동회로.
- 제 15항에 있어서, 행 파형이 실질적으로 1밀리초의 지속시간을 갖는 단극성 파형을 포함하는 구동회로.
