- 서로 다른 전압이 인가되는 제1 화소전극 및 제2 화소전극을 포함하는 제1 기판, 상기 제1 기판과 대향하는 제2 기판, 및 상기 제1 및 제2 기판들 사이에 개재되고 전계 미인가시 수직배향(vertical alignment)되며 전계 인가시 상기 제1 화소전극 및 상기 제2 화소전극에 의해 수평전계가 형성되는 액정층을 구비하는 표시패널;상기 제1 기판의 하부에 배치되고 제1 흡수축을 갖는 제1 편광판;상기 제2 기판의 상부에 배치되고 상기 제1 흡수축과 직교하는 제2 흡수축을 갖는 제2 편광판;상기 제1 편광판과 상기 제2 편광판 사이에 배치된 에이-플레이트; 및상기 제1 편광판과 상기 제2 편광판 사이에 배치되고, 상기 액정층의 두께방향 위상 지연값의 절대값에서 75nm을 감산한 값보다 작거나 같고, 상기 액정층의 두께 방향 위상 지연값의 절대값에서 275nm을 감산한 값보다 크거나 같은 두께방향 위상 지연값을 갖는 네거티브 씨-플레이트를 포함하고,상기 제1 기판은 상기 제1 화소전극에 전기적으로 연결된 제1 데이터 라인 및 상기 제2 화소전극에 전기적으로 연결된 제2 데이터 라인을 더 포함하고,상기 액정층의 두께방향 위상 지연값의 절대값은 220nm 내지 520nm이고,상기 네거티브 씨-플레이트의 두께방향 위상 지연값은 100nm 내지 400nm이고,상기 에이-플레이트의 두께방향 위상 지연값은 60nm 내지 80nm인 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.

- 제12항에 있어서, 상기 제1 편광판은 광의 진행방향에 대하여 상기 표시패널의 하측에 배치되고,상기 제2 편광판은 상기 광의 진행 방향에 대하여 상기 표시패널의 상측에 배치되는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
- 제12항에 있어서, 상기 에이-플레이트는 포지티브 에이-플레이트를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
- 제12항에 있어서, 상기 네거티브 씨-플레이트 및 상기 에이-플레이트들은,상기 표시패널을 측면에서 보았을 때의 상기 액정층에 의해 분산된 광의 편광 상태를 뽀앙카레 구면에서의 소거 포인트(extinction point)로 실질적으로 일치시키는 것을 특징으로 하는 표시장치.
