흡수성 복합체
기저귀, 성인 실금용품 등의 일회용 흡수성 가먼트에 사용하기에 적당한 흡수성 복합체는 공지되어 있다. 이와 같은 흡수성 복합체는 예를 들면 1987년 10월 13일 버나딘(Bernardin)에게 특허된 미합중국 특허 제4,699,619호, 1989년 1월 17일 메이어(Meyer) 등에게 특허된 미합중국 특허 제4,798,603호, 1989년 5월 30일 앨레 머니(Alemany) 등에게 특허된 미합중국 특허 제4,834,735호, 1992년 9월 15일 켈렌버거(Kellenberger)에게 특허된 미합중국 특허 제5,147,343호 및 l992년 9월 22일 켈렌버거 등에게 특허된 미합중국 특허 제5,149,335호에 기재되어 있다.

고흡수성 재료를 포함하는 다수의 공지된 흡수성 복합체는 비교적 저농도의 고흡수성 재료를 사용한다. 즉, 다수의 흡수성 복합체는 에어 레이드 셀룰로오스 섬유 및 약 20 중량% 미만의 고흡수성 재료로 이루어져 있다. 이는 여러가지 요인때문이다.
다수의 고흡수성 재료는 사용 동안 액체가 흡수성 복합체에 가해지는 속도대로 액체를 흡수하는 것이 불가능하다. 따라서, 고흡수성 재료가 액체를 흡수할 수 있을 때까지 그 액체를 임시로 수용시키기 위하여 비교적 고농도의 섬유상 재료가 요구되고 있다. 또한 이 섬유는 겔 블로킹이 발생되지 않도록 고흡수성 재료의 입자들을 격리시키는 역할을 한다. 겔 블로킹은 고흡수성 재료의 입자가 팽창시 변형되어 입자들 사이 또는 입자와 섬유 사이의 틈새 공간을 봉쇄함으로써 틈새 공간을 통한 액체의 흐름을 방해하는 상황을 의미한다.
1992년 9월 15일 켈렌버거에게 특허된 미합중국 특허 제5,147,343호는 겔 블로킹의 문제를 방지하는데 적합한 흡수성 복합체를 기재하고 있다. 미합중국 특허 제5,147,343호는 초흡수체가 21,000 dynes/㎠ 이상의 억제 압력 하에 있는 동안 초흡수성 재료 1g당 0.9 중량% 염화나트륨 수용액 27 ㎖ 이상을 흡수할 수 있는 초흡수성 재료의 용도를 기재하고 있다. 초흡수성 재료가 이산된 입자의 형태인 경우, 초흡수성 재료의 약 50 중량% 이상이 습윤시 다공성 섬유 매트릭스의 평균 공극 크기보다 더 큰 크기를 갖는다. 상기 흡수성 복합체들은 약 90 중량% 이하의 초흡수성 재료를 보유하는 것으로 기재되어 있다.
고흡수성 재료의 함량이 상대적으로 낮고 섬유상 재료의 함량이 상대적으로 높은 경우에서는 비교적 두꺼운 경향이 있는 흡수성 복합체가 생성되었다. 몇몇 경우에는 일회용 흡수성 가먼트에 비교적 두꺼운 흡수성 복합체를 사용하는 것이 용인된다. 그러나, 최근 몇년, 종래의 흡수성 복합체에 비해 보다 얇으면서 여전히동일한 흡수 용량을 갖는 흡수성 복합체의 제조를 원하는 경향이 증가하고 있다. 비교적 얇은 흡수성 복합체를 제조하려는 열망은 흡수성 복합체 내에 혼입되는 고흡수성 재료의 양을 증가시키려는 열망에 귀착되었다. 이는 이와 같은 고흡수성 재료의 흡수 용량이 일반적으로 섬유상 재료의 흡수 용량보다 수배 더 크기 때문이다. 예를 들면, 목재 펄프 플러프의 섬유상 매트릭스는 목재 펄프 플러프 1g당 약 7-9g의 액체(예, 0.9 중량 %의 염수)를 흡수할 수 있지만 고흡수성 재료는 g당 0.9 중랑%의 염수와 같은 액체를 약 15 g 이상, 바람직하기로는 약 20 g 이상 및 종종 약 25 g 이상을 흡수할 수 있다.

한가지 일면으로 본 발명은 주의깊은 선택에 의해 성취된 개선된 바람직한 특성을 갖는 흡수성 복합체 및 일회용 흡수성 가먼트 및 이와 같은 흡수성 복합체 및 일회용 흡수성 가먼트 형성에 사용되는 초흡수성 재료의 용도에 관한 것이다.
구체적으로, 일면으로 본 발명은 초흡수성 재료를 보유하기 위한 보유 수단 및 이 보유 수단에 함유된 초흡수성 재료로 이루어진 흡수성 복합체에 관한 것이다 두번째 일면으로 본 발명은 섬유와 초흡수성 재료의 혼합물로 이루어진 흡수성 복합체에 관한 것이다. 본 명세서에서 사용된 "초흡수성 재료"라는 용어는 가장 적합한 조건하에서 자기 중량의 약 20배 이상, 바람직하기로는 약 30배 이상의 0.9 중량%의 염화나트륨 함유 수용액을 흡수할 수 있는 수팽창성의 수불용성 유기 또는 무기 재료를 의미한다. 본 발명의 초흡수성 재료로서 사용하기에 적당한 유기 재료로는 아가, 펙틴, 구아 검 등의 천연 재료, 및 합성 히드로겔 중합체 등의 합성 재료가 있다. 이와 같은 히드로겔 중합체로는 예를 들면 폴리아크릴아미드, 폴리비닐알코올, 에틸렌 말레인산 무수물 공중합체, 폴리비닐 에테르, 히드록시프로 필셀룰로오스, 폴리비닐모르폴리논, 폴리아크릴산의 알칼리 금속염, 및 폴리아크릴레이트, 폴리아크릴아미드, 폴리비닐피리딘, 비닐 술폰산의 중합체 및 공중합체 등이 있다. 다른 적당한 중합체로는 가수분해된 아크릴로니트릴 그래프트 중합 전분, 아크릴산 그래프트 중합 전분 및 이소부틸렌 말레산 무수물 공중합체 및 이들의 혼합물이 있다. 히드로겔 중합체는 이 재료를 실질적으로 수불용성으로 되게 하기 위해 다소 가교 결합시키는 것이 바람직하다. 가교 결합은 예를 들면 방사선 조사 또는 공유 결합, 이온 결합, 반데르바알스 결합 또는 수소 결합에 의해 수행될 수 있다. 초흡수성 재료는 입자, 섬유, 박편, 구 등을 포함한 흡수성 복합체에 사용하기에 적당한 임의의 형태일 수 있다. 본 발명의 바람직한 한 실시태양에 있어서, 초흡수성 재료는 히드로콜로이드, 바람직하기로는 이온 히드로콜로이드의 입자로 이루어져 있다.
폭넓은 종류의 초흡수성 재료가 공지되어 있지만 본 발명은 일면으로 개선된 흡수성 복합체 및 일회용 흡수성 가먼트가 형성되도록 적당하게 선택한 초흡수성 재료에 관한 것이다.
1992년 9월 15일 켈렌버거에게 특허된 미합중국 특허 제5,147,343호는 초흡수성 재료에 억제력이 가해지고 있는 동안에도 액체를 흡수할 수 있는 능력을 나타내는 초흡수성 재료를 사용하는 것의 중요성을 기재하고 있다. 상기 특허의 특허청구의 범위에 기재된 억제력은 약 0.3 lb/in2(약 21,000 dynes/㎠)이다.
본 발명의 발명자들은 약 30 내지 약 100 중량%의 초흡수성 재료를 포함하는 특정 흡수성 복합체 내 초흡수성 재료의 성능이 적어도 부분적으로 여러가지 억제 력하에서 액체를 흡수할 수 있는 초흡수성 재료의 능력에 좌우된다는 것을 알아내었다. 즉, 본 발명의 발명자들은 초흡수성 재료의 성능이 주어진 단일 억제력(예,약 0.3 lb/in2(약 21,000 dynes/㎠))하에 있는 동안 액체를 흡수하는 초흡수성 재료의 능력 뿐만 아니라 더 넓은 범위의 억제력(예, 0.01-0.9 lb/in2(690-62,053 dynes/㎠))하에 있는 동안 액체를 흡수할 수 있는 초흡수성 재료의 능력에 관련됨을 발견하였다. 본 발명의 목적을 위해 여러가지 상이한 억제 압력 하에 액체를 흡수하는 초흡수성 재료의 능력을 가압 흡수성 지수로서 정량화시켰다.
가압 흡수성 지수는 다음 하중: 0.01 lb/in2(690 dynes/㎠), 0.29 lb/ in2(l9995 dynes/㎠), 0.57 lb/in2(39300 dynes/㎠), 및 0.90 lb/in2(62053 dynes/㎠) 하에서 측정된 초흡수성 재료의 하중 하의 흡수성 값 (이하 기재됨)의 총합이다. 즉, 주어진 초흡수성 재료의 하중 하의 흡수성 값은 이하 실시예에 기재된 방법에 따라 상기 억제력 하에서 측정한다. 그 후, 상기 억제 하중 하에서 측정된 하중 하의 흡수성 값을 전부 합하여 가압 흡수성 지수를 얻는다.
본 발명에 사용하기에 적당한 초흡수성 재료는 100 이상, 일반적으로 105 이상, 구체적으로 110 이상, 보다 구체적으로 약 115 이상, 훨씬 구체적으로 약 120이상, 가장 특별하게는 약 140 이상의 가압 흡수성 지수를 갖는다.
본 명세서에서 사용된 "특정 초흡수성 재료의 하중 하의 흡수성 값"은 주어진 억제 하중 하에 있으면서 60분 내에 초흡수성 재료 1 g이 흡수할 수 있는 염화나트륨 수용액(염화나트륨 0.9 중량%)의 양(g)을 의미한다.
본 발명에 사용하기에 적당한 초흡수성 재료는 또한 이하 실시예에 기재된 바와 같이 측정된 약 13 중량% 미만, 구체적으로 약 10 중량% 미만, 더욱 구체적으로 약 7 중량% 미만, 및 훨씬 구체적으로 약 3 중량% 미만의 16시간 추출가능물 함량을 갖는 것이 적합할 수 있다.
본 발명에 사용하기에 적합한 초흡수성 재료는 또한 이하 실시예에 기재한 바와 같이 측정하여 약 45초 미만, 구체적으로 약 30초 미만, 더욱 구체적으로 약 20초 미만, 및 훨씬 구체적으로 약 15초 미만의 소용돌이 소멸 시간을 갖는 것이 적합할 수 있다.
본 발명의 발명자들은 상기 특성들 중 하나 이상이 조합된 특성을 갖는 초흡수성 재료를 선택함으로써 흡수성 복합체와 흡수성 가먼트의 만족스럽고 개선된 성능을 성취할 수 있음을 알아내었다. 예를 들면, 주어진 수준의 만족스러운 성능은 가압 흡수성 지수가 약 110인 초흡수성 재료를 사용하여 성취할 수 있다, 별법으로, 가압 흡수성 지수가 100이고, 16시간 추출가능물 함량이 약 13 중량% 미만인 초흡수성 재료를 사용하여 만족스러운 성능을 성취할 수 있다. 추가로, 가압 흡수성 지수가 100이고 소용돌이 소멸 시간이 약 45초 미만인 초흡수성 재료를 사용하여 만족스러운 성능을 성취할 수 있다.
구체적으로, 본 발명의 발명자들은 약 110 이상의 가압 흡수성 지수를 갖는 초흡수성 재료가 바람직한 것으로 여겨지지만, 보다 낮은 초흡수성 지수를 갖는 초흡수성 재료도 약 13 중량% 미만의 16시간 추출가능물 함량 또는 약 45초 미만의 소용돌이 소멸 시간을 갖는다면 만족할만한 성능을 가질 수 있음을 알아내었다. 즉, 빠른 흡수 속도(소용돌이 소멸 시간) 및 저추출가능물 함량의 초흡수성 재료 특성들이 악 110 미만의 가압 흡수성 지수의 불리한 점을 보상할 수 있다.
본 발명에 사용하기에 적당한 특정 초흡수성 재료의 예는 상표명 T-5121, T-5209 및 T-5149의 스톡하우젠사(Stockhausen, Incorporated) 제품인 폴리아크릴레이트 재료, 상표명 S-271-1675-03의 획스트 셀라니즈사 (Hoechst Celanese Corporation) 제품인 폴리아크릴레이트 재료, 및 상표명 AFA 35-150 및 AFA 65-13의 미합중국 소재 다우 케미칼사(Dow Chemical) 제품인 폴리아크릴레이트 재료이다.
본 발명의 바람직한 실시태양에 있어서, 초흡수성 재료는 비팽창된 상태에서 ASTM의 시험 방법 D-1921에 따라 체분석으로 측정했을 때 최대 단면 직경이 약 50 μ 내지 약 1,000 μ의 범위, 바람직하기로는 약 100 μ 내지 약 800 μ의 범위인 입자 형태이다. 상기 범위 내의 초흡수성 재료의 입자는 충실 입자, 다공성 입자로 이루어질 수도 있고 상기 크기 범위 내의 입자로 응집된 다수의 더 작은 입자로 이루어진 응집된 입자일 수 있다는 것을 이해하여야 한다.

초흡수성 재료를 보온할 수 있는 보유 수단을 형성할 수 있고 초흡수성 재료와 조합하여 복합체를 형성할 수 있는 임의의 섬유는 본 발명에 사용하기에 적당할것으로 여겨진다. 종종 이 섬유는 친수성인 것이 바람직하다. 본 명세서에서 사용된 섬유는 공기 중 물의 접촉각이 90° 미만일 경우 "친수성"인 것으로 간주한다. 이러한 친수성 판정을 위한 접촉각은 문헌[굳 앤드 스트롬버그(Good and Stromberg)의 "Surface and Colloid Science" 제11권(Plenum Press, 1979)]에 기재된 바와 같이 측정된다.
본 발명에 사용하기에 적당한 섬유로는 목재 펄프 플러프, 면, 면 린터, 레이온, 셀룰로오스 아세테이트 등의 셀룰로오스 섬유 및 합성 중합체 섬유가 있다. 합성 중합체 섬유는 본래 친수성인 중합체 재료로부터 형성될 수 있거나 또는 본래 소수성인 중합체 재료(90°를 초과하는 물-공기 접촉각)로부터 형성될 수 있으며, 그후 이 섬유는 적어도 그의 외부 표면이 친수성이 되도록 처리한다. 예를 들면, 친수성 섬유는 나일론(예를 들면, 나일론-6)과 폴리에틸렌 옥시드 디아민의 블록 공중합체와 같은 본래 친수성인 중합체로부터 형성될 수 있다. 이와 같은 블록 공중 합체는 상표명 HYDROFILTM의 얼라이드-시그날사 (Allied-Signal Inc.) 제품이 시판 중에 있다. 별법으로, 상기 섬유는 표면 개질시킬 경우 일반적으로 안정한 친수성 표면을 제공하는 폴리올레핀 또는 폴리에스테르와 같은 본래 소수성인 중합체로부터 형성될 수 있다. 이와 같은 표면 개질된 폴리에틸렌은 상표명 ASPUN의 습윤성 폴리에틸렌(다우 케미칼사 제품)이 시판중에 있다.
일반적으로 소수성 중합체에 친수성 표면 처리를 가하여 친수성 섬유를 형성시키는 경우, 바람직한 성능 등급을 얻기 위해서는 일반적으로 안정한 표면 처리를 사용하는 것이 바람직하리라 생각된다. 기저귀와 같은 흡수성 가먼트에 사용되는 흡수성 구조체는 종종 수회의 방뇨를 받는다. 표면 처리가 임시적일 경우 최초 방뇨로 흡수성 구조체가 씻겨나가 소수성 섬유 표면이 노출될 수 있다. 소수성 섬유 표면은 흡수성 구조체의 흡수 성능을 저해할 수 있다. 물론, 부분적으로는 흡수시킬 액체에 따라 다르게 소수성 섬유를 사용할 수 있는 경우도 있다.
본 발명에 사용하기에 적당한 합성 중합체 섬유는 중합체 재료의 섬유가 압출되고 섬세화되어 바람직한 직경을 갖는 섬유를 생성하는 용융 압출법을 통해 형성시키는 것이 적당하다. 별법으로,섬유는 방사법을 통해 형성시킬 수 있다. 당 업계에 통상의 지식을 가진 자들에게 공지된 임의의 섬유 제조법이 본 발명에 사용하기에 적당한 것으로 여겨진다.
본 발명에 사용하기에 적당한 섬유는 일반적으로 길이가 약 1 ㎜ 이상이다.이 섬유의 최대 길이는 무한대에 가까울 수 있다. 다시 말해서 섬유는 당 업계의 통상의 지식을 가진자들에게 공지된 특정 조건하에 멜트블로운법을 통해 형성된 섬유들과 같이 본질적으로 연속적일 수 있다.
"혼합물"이라는 용어는 초흡수성 재료가 섬유와 직접 접촉하거나 또는 이동해서 접촉하는 것이 실질적으로 방해받지 않는, 섬유와 초흡수성 재료의 혼합물을 의미한다. 따라서, 예를 들면 제1층이 목재 펄프 플러프와 초흡수성 재료의 에어레이드 혼합물로 이루어지고, 제2층이 단지 에어레이드 플러프만으로 이루어진 다층 흡수성 코어에 있어서, 두 층 사이의 초흡수성 재료의 실질적인 건식 이동이 방지된다고 가정한다면 제1층만이 "혼합물"로 간주된다. 이와 같은 이동을 방지하는 방법은 공지되어 있으며, 티슈 랩 시트, 고밀도 섬유 층 또는 유사 수단으로 층을 분리시켜 두층들 사이의 초흡수성 재료의 실질적인 건식 이동을 방지하는 것 등이 있다. 초흡수성 재료와 섬유의 혼합물은 비교적 균질하거나 또는 비교적 불균질할 수 있다. 불균질 혼합물의 경우에는 초흡수성 재료가 구배로 배열되거나 또는 섬유와 층을 이룰 수 있다.
보유 수단이 섬유와 초흡수성 재료의 혼합물로 이루어진 경우, 섬유와 초흡수성 재료의 혼합물은 폭넓은 종류의 방법으로 형성될 수 있다. 예를 들면, 이 혼합물은 당 업계에 공지된 방법에 따라 혼합물의 배트(batt)를 형성시키기 위해 섬유와 초흡수성 재료를 에어레잉 또는 웨트레잉시킴으로써 형성될 수 있다. 섬유와 초흡수성 재료의 혼합물을 에어레잉시키는 것은, 미리 형성된 섬유를 초흡수성 재료와 에어레잉시키는 상황 및 초흡수성 재료를 예를 들면 멜트블로운법을 통해서 섬유가 형성됨과 동시에 섬유와 혼합시키는 상황을 모두 포함하는 것을 의미한다.
본 발명의 흡수성 복합체 내에 존재하는 비교적 높은 농도의 초흡수성 재료 때문에, 본 발명에 의한 흡수성 복합체는 약 0.5 인치(12.7 ㎜) 미만, 특히 약 0.3인치(7.6 ㎜) 미만, 및 보다 구체적으로 약 0.15 인치(3.8 ㎜) 미만의 평균 두께를 가질 수 있다.
본 명세서에서 사용된 흡수성 복합체의 평균 두께는 약 0.2 lb/in2(l3789.6 dynes/㎠)의 하중 하에서 측정된 다수의 두께 측정치의 평균치를 의미한다. 두께측정 횟수는 전체 흡수성 복합체의 평균 두께를 나타내기에 충분해야 한다.
본 발명의 흡수성 복합체는 약 50 내지 약 1000 g/㎡, 특히 약 100 내지 약 900 g/㎡의 평균 기초 중량을 갖는다. 흡수성 복합체의 평균 기초 중량은 흡수성 복합체를 칭량하고, 흡수성 복합체의 주요 평면의 표면적을 측정하고 g/㎡과 같은 표준 단위로 전환시킴으로써 결정될 수 있다.
본 발명에 의한 흡수성 복합체는 뇨, 생리혈 및 혈액 등의 체액을 포함한 다수의 액체를 흡수하는데 적합하며, 기저귀, 성인 실금용품, 패드 패드 등의 흡수성 가먼트, 생리대, 탐폰 등의 월경 용구, 및 와이프, 턱받기, 외상용 붕대, 식품 포장물 등의 다른 흡수성 용품에 사용하기에 적합하다. 따라서, 다른 일면으로, 본 발명은 상기 흡수성 복합체를 포함하는 일회용 흡수성 가먼트에 관한 것이다. 폭넓은 종류의 흡수성 가먼트가 당 업계의 통상의 지식을 가진자들에게 공지되어 있다. 본 발명의 흡수성 복합체는 이와 같은 공지된 흡수성 가먼트에 사용될 수 있다. 예시적인 흡수성 가먼트는 일반적으로 l987년 12월 l일 볼랜드(Boland) 등에게 특허된 미합중국 특허 제4,710,187호, 1988년 8월 9일 뢰슬러(Roessler) 등에게 특허된 미합중국 특허 제4,762,521호, 1988년 9월 13일 프록스미어(Proxmire) 등에게 특허된 미합중국 특허 제4,770,656호, 1989년 1월 17일 메이어(Meyer) 등에게 특허된 미합중국 특허 제4,798,603호, 한슨(Hanson) 등의 이름으로 1991년 9월 11일 출원된 미합중국 특허 출원 제07/757,760호 (EPO 539,703) 및 탄저 등의 이름으로 같은 날 출원된 4건의 미합중국 출원 (대리인 참조 번호 10,312, 9,848, 10,727, 10,902)에 기재되어 있으며, 상기 특허 문헌들은 본 명세서에서 참고로 인용되었다.
일반적으로, 본 발명에 의한 일회용 흡수성 가먼트는 착용자의 피부와 접촉하기에 적합한 신체측 라이너, 이 라이너에 마주하여 겹쳐져 있는 외부 커버 및 상기 외부 커버 위에 겹쳐지고 신체측 라이너와 외부 커버 사이에 배치된 상기한 바와 같은 흡수성 복합체로 이루어져 있다.
당 업계의 통상의 지식을 가진자들은 신체측 라이너 및 외부 커버로서 사용하기에 적당한 재료를 알 것이다. 신체측 라이너로서 사용하기에 적당한 재료의 예는 악 15 g 내지 악 25 g/㎡의 기초 중량을 갖는 친수화 스펀본디드 폴리프로필렌 또는 폴리에틸렌이다. 외부 커버로서 사용하기에 적당한 재료의 예로는 폴리올레핀 필름과 같은 불투수성 재료, 및 투수성 또는 수증기 투과성 재료가 있다.
도면을 살펴보면, 제1도는 본 발명의 한 실시태양에 의한 일회용 기저귀의 분해 사시도를 도시하고 있다. 일회용 기저귀(10)은 외부 커버(12), 신체측 라이너 (14), 및 신체측 라이너(14)와 외부 커버(12) 사이에 배치된 흡수성 복합체(16)를 포함한다. 흡수성 복합체(16)은 목재 펄프 섬유와 초흡수성 재료의 에어 레이드 혼합물로 이루어져 있다. 흡수성 복합체는 상부 랩 시트층(18)과 하부 랩 시트층(20)으로 이루어진 2 조각 랩 시트에 의해 둘러싸여 있다. 흡수성 복합체(16)은 두께가 다른 부분이 있어 기초 중량이 높아진 영역(22)를 규정한다. 2 조각의 랩 시트는 흡수성 복합체(16)의 연부를 넘어서 연장되어 초흡수성 재료가 기저귀 밖으로 이동하는 것을 방지하기 위해 밀봉될 수 있는 주변부(perimeter)(24)를 규정한다.
외부 커버(12)에는 허리 탄성체(26), 체결 테이프(28) 및 다리 탄성체(30)이 부착되어 있다. 다리 탄성체(30)은 캐리어 시트(32)와 개별 탄성 가닥(34)로 이루어져 있다.
신체측 라이너(14)는 근접 연부(38)과 말단 연부(40)을 갖는 봉쇄 플랩(36)을 포함한다. 서지 처리층(42)는 봉쇄 플랩(36)의 근접 연부(38)들 사이에 배치되어 있다.
제1도에 도시된 기저귀의 정확한 구성 방법 및 재료는 공동 양도된, 1991년 9월 11일 한슨 등의 이름으로 출원된 미합중국 특허 출원 제07/757,760호에 보다 상세히 기재되어 있으며, 이 특허 출원의 관련 내용은 참고로 본 발명에 인용되었다. 제 1 도에 도시된 기저귀에 대한 가능한 변형은 상기 언급한 미합중국 특허 출원 제 07/757,760호 및 공동 양도된, 1992년 1월 17일 마테우스(Matthews) 등의 이름으로 출원된 제07/824,766호에 기재되어 있다. 이와 같은 가능한 변형으로는 서지 처리 층(42)를 신체측 라이너(14)와 흡수성 복합체(16) 사이에 배치시키고, 서지 처리층의 길이를 감소시켜 흡수성 복합체의 길이를 연장시키거나 또는 초기 액체 배설물을 끌어모으는 기저귀의 영역(표적 대역)에 서지 처리층을 집중(길이 감소 및 기초 중량 증가)시키는 것 등이 있다.
제2도는 본 발명에 의한 흡수성 복합체를 도시하고 있다. 제2도를 참조하면 흡수성 복합체(44)는 제1 액체 투과성 층(46), 제2층(48) 및 제1층(46)과 제2층 (48)사이에 형성된 초흡수성 재료의 포켓(50)으로 이루어져 있다. 포켓(50)은 제1층과 제2층을 적절히 결합하여 라미네이트를 형성하게 하고, 이 라미네이트가 건조할 때는 이 라미네이트의 일체성을 유지시키지만 라미네이트가 젖으면 박리되게 하는 부착 수단(52)에 의해 생성된다. 이러한 박리 덕택에 포켓 내에 있는 초흡수성 재료의 팽창은 지나치게 제한받지 않는다. 적당한 부착 수단으로는 수용액 접착제와 같은 감수성 접착제 및 엠보싱이 있다. 부착 수단(52)는 제1층(46)과 제2층(48)을 함께 고정시켜 부착 대역(54) 및 비부착 대역(56)을 제공한다. 비부착 대역은 포켓(50)을 형성한다. 초흡수성 재료(58)은 비부착 대역(56)내부(결국 포켓(50) 내부)에 배치된다. 초흡수성 재료(58) 이외에 포켓(50)은 셀룰로오스 플러프와 같은 섬유상 재료를 함유할 수 있다. 구체적으로, 한 실시 태양에 있어서, 포켓은 초흡수성 재료와 셀룰로오스 플러프의 전체 중량을 기준으로 약 10 중량% 이하의 셀룰로오스 플러프를 함유할 수 있다. 포켓(50)은 간격(60)을 두고 이격되어 있다. 간격(60)은 약 0.15 cm 이상, 다르게는 약 0.25 cm 이상, 또는 다르게는 약 0.3 cm 이상이다. 또한, 포켓 간격(60)은 약 3 cm 이하, 다르게는 약 1.9 cm 이하, 또는 다르게는 약 1.2 cm 이하가 적당하다.

제3도 및 4도를 참조하면 기저귀(62)의 흡수성 구조체의 상세한 구조를 알 수 있다. 기저귀(62)는 뇨와 같은 흡수액의 보존 및 수용을 담당하는 흡수성 복합체(44)를 포함한다. 또한, 기저귀(62)는 외부측 분배층(90)과 같은 보조 흡수체를 포함할 수도 있다. 분배층(90)은 적절하게는 실질적으로 비결합된 친수성 재료, 예컨대 셀룰로오스 섬유의 덩어리로 이루어진다. 셀룰로오스 섬유는 예를 들면 목재 펄프 플러프, 크레이프형 웨딩, 종이 타월 등으로 이루어질 수 있다. 다르게는, 분배층(90)은 폴리에스테르, 폴리프로필렌, 폴리에틸렌, 면 등으로 이루어진 섬유와 같은 친수성 또는 친수화된 섬유로 이루어진 부직웹일 수 있다. 폴리에스테르 또는 폴리프로필렌 섬유와 같은 본래 소수성인 섬유의 경우는 당업계에 공지된 방법에 의해 친수화할 수 있다.
추가로, 기저귀(62)는 상부 시트(80)의 신체측 표면 상에 배치되는 것으로서 도시되어 있거나, 또는 별법으로 상부 시트(80)의 외부측 표면 상에 배치될 수 있는 서지 처리부(92)를 포함한다. 서지 처리부(92)는 폴리올레핀 섬유의 멜트블로운 또는 스펀본디드 웹으로 이루어진 층일 수 있다. 서지 처리부는 또한 천연 및(또는)합성 섬유로 이루어진 본디드 카디드 웹일 수 있다. 서지 처리부는 실질적으로 소수성인 재료로 이루어질 수 있으며, 이 소수성 재료는 임의로 원하는 수준의 습윤성 및 친수성을 얻기 위해 계면활성제로 처리하거나, 달리 가공할 수 있다.
추가로, 기저귀(62)는 봉쇄 플랩을 포함한다. 도시된 배열에서 봉쇄 플랩 (94)는 플랩의 고정 (근접) 연부(96)을 따라 상부 시트 층(80)에 부착되어 있다. 각각의 봉쇄 플랩의 이동성 (말단) 연부는 하나 이상의 개별적인 엘라스토머 재료 가닥을 포함하는 플랩 탄성 부재(100)을 포함한다.
테이프 탭 체결구(102)와 같은 체결수단은 전형적으로 기저귀(62)의 배후 허리띠 부분(68)의 측단부에 사용되어 통상적인 방식으로 기저귀를 착용자에 고정시키는 메카니즘을 제공한다. 외측 분배층(90)은 신체측 랩 시트(104) 및 외측 랩 시트(106)으로 감싸여 있다. 이와 같은 랩 시트는 전형적으로 셀룰로오스 섬유 티슈 또는, 스펀본드 재료와 같은 부직포층으로 이루어진다.
제2도 내지 4도에 기재된 상기 구조체는 흡수 용품이 건조한 경우 특정 배열의 포켓 내에 초흡수성 재료가 견고하게 배치되어 포함되어 있는 흡수성 복합체를 제공하고 있다. 흡수 용품이 습윤될 경우, 흡수성 복합체는 팽창되는 초흡수성 재료의 부피 증가를 수용하면서 초흡수성 재료의 위치를 유지시킬 수 있다. 추가로,부착 수단이 감수성일 경우, 부착 수단의 감수성은 개별 포켓 영역들 사이의 틈새채널을 유지하여 각각의 포켓 영역으로의 액체의 흐름을 촉진할 수 있다. 따라서,흡수성 복합체의 포켓 영역 내에 함유된 초흡수성 재료의 양은 보다 효과적으로 사용될 수 있으며 복합체의 흡수성이 개선될 수 있다. 결과적으로 이 흡수성 복합체가 배치된 기저귀는 보다 대량의 액체를 흡수할 수 있고 누출이 감소되는 더 얇은 구조체로 구성될 수 있다. 박형 구조체는 개선된 맞음새와 편안함을 제공할 수 있다.

시험 방법
하중 하의 흡수성(AUL)
하중 하에 있는 동안 액체를 흡수하는 초흡수성 재료의 능력은 다음과 같이 측정한다. 제5도를 참조하면, 미합중국 메사추세츠주 대너스 소재의 엠/케이 시스템스(M/K Systems)에 의해 시판 중인 GATS(Gravimetric Absorbency Test System) 및 리히슈타인(Lichstein)의 문헌(INDA Technological Symposium Proceedings,1974년 3월)에 기재된 시스템과 유사한 Demand Absorbency Tester(DAT) 110을 사용한다. 직경 2.5 cm의 영역내에 114개의 개구(114)가 형성된 다공판(112)를 사용하는데 다공판(112)는 하중 하의 흡수성(AUL) 측정 장치(116)으로 덮는다. 유체의 초흡수성 입자(120) 내로의 유입을 측정하는 데는 전자 저울(118)을 사용한다. 이 시험에 사용된 유체는 실온(약 23℃)의 0.9 중량% 염화나트륨 함유 수용액이다.
초흡수성 입자를 함유시키는데 사용되는 특수 AUL 장치(116)은 동심성을 보장하기 위해 약간 가공한 내경이 1인치(2.54 cm)인 열가소성 관으로 제조된 실린더 (122)로 이루어져 있다. 100 메시 스테인레스 강 철망(124)가 접착 수단에 의해 실린더(122)의 바닥에 접착된다. 별법으로, 스테인레스 강 철망(124)는 빨갛게 달아오를 때까지 화염으로 이 철망을 가열시키고 그후 이 철망이 냉각될 때까지 실린더를 철망 위에 둠으로써 실린더(122)의 바닥에 융접시킬 수 있다. 성공하지 못했거나 파괴될 경우 납땜 인두를 사용하여 봉합시킬 수 있다. 평평하고 매끄러운 바닥을 유지하고 실린더 내측이 일그러지지 않도록 주의해야 한다. 1인치(2.54 cm) 직경의 고체 재료(예, 플렉시글래스(상표명 Plexiglass))로 4.4 g의 피스톤(126)을 제조하고 실린더(122) 내에 접착없이 꼭 맞도록 가공한다. 690 dynes/㎠(0.01 lb/ in2)의 억제 하중을 제공하도록 피스톤(126)을 사용 한다. 보다 큰 억제 하중을 얻기 위해서는 분동(128)을 사용한다. 상기한 바와 같이, 보다 큰 억제 하중은 l9995 dynes/㎠(0.29 lb/in2), 39300 dynes/㎠(0.57 lb/in2) 및 62053 dynes/㎠(0.9 lb/ in2)이다. 따라서, 각각의 억제 하중(4.4 g 피스톤(126) 이외의 하중)을 얻기 위해100, 200 및 317 g 분동을 사용한다. AUL 시험을 위해 0.160 (± 0.005) g으로 칭량된 초흡수성 입자 시료를 사용한다. 미합중국 표준 30 메시 체를 통해 사전에 걸러지고 표준 50 메시 체를 통과하지 못하는 과립(300-600 μ)으로부터 시료를 채취한다. 시험할 때 입자는 약 5 중량% 미만의 수분 함량을 갖는다.
3 cm 직경의 GF/A 유리 여과지 (130)을 판(112)에 얹어 시험을 개시한다. 이 여과지의 크기는 DAT(110)의 개구(114)를 통한 증발을 방지하고 포화를 유발시키면서 실리더와 양호하게 접촉하도록 실린더(122)의 내경보다는 크고 외경보다는 작아야 한다. 입자(120)을 계량 종이에 놓고 중량을 측정하고 AUL 장치(116)의 바닥의 철망(124) 위에 배치시킨다. 장치(116)을 흔들어 철망(124) 위의 입자(120)을 평평하게 하였다. 실린더(122)의 벽에 달라붙는 입자가 없도록 주의를 기울였다. 가압 없이 피스톤(126) 및 임의로 분동(128)을 실린더(122)의 입자(120) 상에 놓은 후, AUL 장치(116)을 유리 여과지(130) 상에 배치시킨다. 흡습된 유체의 양(그램단위)을 직접 손으로, 또는 띠기록지 기록계를 사용하여 또는 데이타 습득 시스템 또는 개인용 컴퓨터 시스템으로 시간의 함수로서 모니터한다.
AUL 값은 60분 후 흡습된 유체의 양(g)을 시료의 중량(0.610 g)으로 나누기한 값으로서 시료 1 g당 흡습된 유체의 g수이다. 또한, 유체 흡수 속도도 측정할 수 있다. 즉각적인 최종 데이타 판독의 정확도를 보장하기 위해 두가지를 점검하는 것이 좋다. 먼저, 피스톤(126)이 상승한 높이에 실린더(122)의 단면적을 곱한 값은 흡수 유체의 부피와 동일해야 한다. 두번째로, AUL 장치(116)은 시험 전 및 후에 칭량할 수 있으며, 중량 차이는 유체 흡수량과 거의 동일해야 한다. 주어진 시료에서 최소 3회 시험을 수행하고 평균하여 AUL 값으로 정한다.
16 시간 추출가능물 함량
다음 시험 방법을 사용하여 초흡수성 재료의 16시간 추출가능물 함량을 계산한다. 첫번째 시험 방법은 카르복실산 기재 초흡수성 재료에 사용하기 위한 것이다. 두번째 시험 방법은 모든 기타(비카르복실산 기재) 초흡수성 재료에 사용하기위한 것이다. 두가지 방법은 특정 초흡수성 재료 내에 존재하는 추출물의 총량을 포함하는 결과들을 제공할 수 있다는 것을 알아야 한다. 16시간 추출가능물 함량은 사실상 중합체인 추출물에 대한 것만을 의미한다. 그러므로, 주어진 초흡수성 재료가 상당량의 비중합체 추출물을 함유하는 것으로 알려져 있거나 그러한 것으로 여겨지는 경우, 이와 같은 비중합체 추출물은 아래에 설명된 16시간 추출가능물 함량 시험 측정을 수행하기 전에 통상적인 방식으로 상기 초흡수성 재료로부터 제거해야 한다.
방법 A (카르복실산 기재 초흡수성 재료)
이 시험에 사용되는 시험 유체는 염화나트륨 0.9 중량%를 함유하는 수용액이다. 기본적으로, 이 초흡수성 재료를 16시간 동안 염수와 혼합시킨다. 이어서, 초 흡수성 재료를 침강시킨다. 염수 용액의 일부를 여과시키고 여액의 분액을 채취한다. 여액의 pH를 10으로 상승시킨다. 이이서, 이 여액을 산으로 pH 2.7로 적정한 다. 적정 데이타로부터 추출가능한 카르복실산 함유 중합체의 양을 측정할 수 있다. 정확한 시험 공정은 다음과 같다.
1. 0.9 중랑% 염화나트륨 용액 75 ㎖(± 0.1㎖)를 일회용 비이커에 첨가한다.
2. 시험할 초흡수성 재료 0.4 g(± 0.01 g)을 염화나트륨 용액에 첨가한다. 초흡수성 재료를 앞에서 설명한 바와 같이 미리 체로 걸러서 300-600 μ의 입자 크기를 갖게한다.
3. 혼합물을 저속의 평 베드 수평 진탕기(박스터 사이언티픽사가 상표명 Lab-Line?으로 시판 중임)에 배치시키고 16시간 동안 진탕시킨다.
4. 초흡수성 재료와 염화나트륨 용액의 혼합물을 8 μWhatman 여과지를 통해 여과시킨다.
5. 여액 20 g(± 0.01 g)을 일회용 비이커에 넣는다. 비이커를 pH 전극이 여액에 충분히 잠길 수 있도록 두고 여액을 교반시킨다. 적정을 위해 사용되는 기계는 Metrohm 655 Dosimat와 조합 pH 전극이 장착된 Brinkmann Metrohm 672 Titroprocessor이다. 고정 종말점 적정을 위한 기계의 파라미터는 다음과 같다.

pH 전극은 pH 10, 7 및 3의 완충액을 사용해서 보정한다.
6. 여액의 pH를 0.IN 수산화나트륨 용액으로 10으로 상승시킨다. 이어서, 이 용액을 표준 0.1 N 염산 용액을 사용하여 pH 2.7로 역적정한다.
7. 염화나트륨 0.9 중량%의 용액 20 ㎖를 상기한 바와 같이 적정하여 각각의 분석에서 용매 블랭크로 이용한다.
8. 추출물 %는 다음 식에 따라 계산한다.

추출물 %는 초흡수성 재료의 초기 중량을 기준으로 한 중량%로 나타낸다.
방법 B - 비카르복실산 기재 초흡수성 재료
비카르복실산 기재 초흡수성 재료의 추출가능물 함량은 0.9 중량%의 염화나트륨을 함유하는 수용액에서 16시간 동안 초흡수성 재료 시료를 팽창시키는 중량 분석법으로 측정한다. 여액 중 중합체 함량은 중량분석법으로 측정한다. 구체적인시험 방법은 다음과 같다.
500 ㎖ 엘렌메이어 플라스크에 계량한 0.25 g(±0.1 ㎎)의 건조 초흡수성 재료를 넣는다. 상기한 바와 같이 초흡수성 재료는 300-600 μ의 입자 크기를 갖도록 미리 체질한다. 0.9 중량% 염화나트륨 용액 250㎖를 상기 플라스크에 첨가하고 혼합물을 1시간 동안 서서히 교반시킨다. 1시간 후, 교반을 멈추고 혼합물을 15시간 동안 방치한다. 15 시간 후 8 μ Whatman(상표명) 여과지를 통해 충분한 상청액을 여과시켜 40 ㎖ 이상의 여액을 얻는다. 정확히 40 ㎖ 여액을 깨끗한 100 ㎖ 둥근 바닥 플라스크에 넣고, 용액을 회전식 증발기(수 진공 흡인기, 욕조 온도 55 ℃) 상에서 농축시켰다. 남아있는 2-3 ㎖의 용액을 추가 증류수를 사용하여 자체 중량을 측정한 바이알에 정량적으로 옮긴다. 계량 바이알의 용액을 120 ℃의 오븐에서 농축 건조시킨다. 바이알을 냉각시키고, 재계량하고 잔류물의 중량(Wr)을 바이알의 자체 중량 값을 이용해서 측정한다. 여액 40 ㎖ 내에 존재하는 염화나트륨의 중량% (WNaCl)을 계산한다. 추출가능한 중합체의 중량%를 하기 식에 따라 건조 중합체의 중량(Wp) 및 잔류물의 중량(Wr) (염화나트륨의 중량(WNaCl)에 대해 보정함)으로부터 계산한다.

소용돌이 소멸 시간
전체적인 설명 :
소용돌이 시험은 2 g의 초흡수성 재료가 자기 교반판 상에서 염수 용액 50 ㎖를 600회/분의 속도로 교반시켜 생성된 소용돌이를 그치게 하는 데 소요되는 시간(초)을 측정한다. 소용돌이를 그치게 하는 데 걸리는 시간은 초흡수성 재료의 자유 팽창 흡수 속도의 한 지표이다.
장치 및 재료
1. 비이커, 100 ㎖,
2. 분당 600회의 회전수를 제공할 수 있는 프로그램 가능한 자기 교반판(예, 데이터플레이트(Dataplate, 등록상표) Model # 721로 시판 중인 피엠씨 인더스트리스(PMC Industries)제품).
3. 테플론(Teflon, 등록상표)이 피복된, 7.9 ㎜ X 32 ㎜의 고리 없는 자기 교반 막대(예, S/P(등록상표)로 시판중인 제거가능한 선회축 고리를 갖는 단일 팩 둥근교반 막대, 백스터 디아그노스틱스(Baxter Diagnostics) 제품).

시험 방법
1. 염수 용액 50 g ± 0.01 g을 100 ㎖ 비이커에 넣는다.
2. 이 비이커에 자기 교반 막대를 넣는다.
3. 자기 교반판을 600회/분의 회전수로 프로그램을 짠다.
4. 자기 교반 막대가 활성화되도록 자기 교반판의 중앙에 비이커를 위치시킨다. 소용돌이의 아랫부분이 자기 교반 막대의 상부에 근접해야 한다.
5. 계량 종이 상에 시험할 초흡수성 재료 2 g ±0.01 g을 올려놓고 계량한다.
주의 : 초흡수성 재료는 입수한 상태대로(즉, 본 명세서에 기재된 것과 같은 흡수성 복합체에 투입할 때와 같은 상태로) 시험한다. 입도가 시험에 영향을 미치는 것으로 공지되어 있지만, 특정 입도로 체질하지 않는다.
6. 염수 용액을 교반시키면서 시험할 초흡수성 재료를 신속히 염수 용액에 붓고 스톱 와치를 작동시킨다. 시험할 초흡수성 재료는 소용돌이의 중앙과 비이커의 측면 사이의 염수 용액에 첨가해야 한다.
7. 염수 용액의 표면이 잠잠해졌을 때 스톱와치 작동을 중지시키고 시간을 기록한다.
8. 기록된 시간(초)를 소용돌이 소멸 시간으로 한다.

실시예 1
미합중국 노스 캐롤라이나주 그린스보로 소재의 스톡하우젠사, 미합중국 미시간주 미들랜드 소재의 다우 케미칼사 및 미합중국 버니지니아주 포츠마우쓰 소재의 획스트 셀라니즈사로부터 초흡수성 재료를 입수하였다. 모든 초흡수성 재료는 아크릴산을 기재로한 것이며 모두 나트륨염이었다. 초흡수성 재료의 제조원, 상표명 및 일반적인 조성은 하기 표1에 기재한 바와 같다.

표 1에 기재된 초흡수성 재료에 대하여 다양한 억제 하중 하에서의 하중 하의 흡수성 값, 가압 흡수성 지수, 및 16시간 추출가능물 함량을 측정하는 시험을 수행하였다. 시험 결과를 표2에 기재하였다. 달리 명시하지 않는 한, 모든 하중 하의 흡수성 데이터는 3회 시험 측정값의 평균치를 나타낸다. 모든 16시간 추출물 값은 단일 시험값 또는 3회 시험값의 평균치이다.

상기 표 1 및 2에 기재된 다수의 초흡수성 재료들을 전반적으로 1991년 9월 11일 한슨 등의 이름으로 출원된 미합중국 특허 출원 제07/757,760호에 나타낸 구조를 갖는 일회용 기저귀에 포함시켰다. 더욱 구체적으로, 사용 시험에 사용된 기저귀들은 하기스(HUGGIES, 등록상표) UltraTrim Step 3(상품명)으로 킴벌리-클라크사(Kimberly- Clark Corporation)에 의해 시판중인 기저귀들과 전반적으로 동일한 구조를 갖는다. UltraTrim 기저귀는 2개의 랩 시트 조각으로 둘러쌓여 있는 목재 펄프 섬유와 초흡수성 재료의 혼합물로 이루어진 흡수 코어를 포함하고 있다. 사용 시험에 사용된 기저귀는, 상기한 초흡수성 재료가 초흡수성 재료로서 사용되었고 초흡수성 재료와 목재 펄프 섬유의 혼합물의 밀도 및 기초 중량이 사용 시험 마다 다소 변화되고 시판중인 UltraTrim 제품의 그것과 다소 상이한 것을 제외하고는 시판 중인 UltraTrim 기저귀와 동일하였다.
HUGGIES(등록상표) UltraTrim Step 3 기저귀는 폴리에틸렌 필름으로 된 0.0318 ㎜(1.25 mil) 두께의 배면 시트와 흡수성 패드를 포함하였다. 흡수성 패드는 목재 펠프 섬유 약 11 내지 약 14 g 및 상기한 초흡수성 재료들 중에서 선택된 초흡수성 재료 약 10 내지 약 12 g을 함유하였다. 이 섬유와 초흡수성 재료는 전 체 약 475 내지 약 540 g/㎡의 평균 기초 중량 및 약 0.21 내지 약 0.32 g/㎤의 밀도를 가지도록 배열시켰다. 또한, 흡수성 패드는 목재 펄프 섬유와 초흡수성 재료의 덩어리 둘레에 배치된 습강 셀룰로오스 티슈를 함유하였다. 티슈 랩은 약 2.3 g의 중량 및 약 16-21 g/㎡의 기초 중량을 가졌다. 생성된 흡수성 패드를 폴리프로필렌 섬유의 스펀본디드 웹으로 이루어진 상부 시트와 배면 시트 사이에 샌드위치시켰다. 상부 시트 재료는 기저귀의 배면 시트와 실질적으로 동일한 넓이를 갖는 크기이며 섬도가 약 2.8 내지 3.2 데니어 범위인 폴리프로필렌 섬유로 이루어졌다. 이 프로필렌 섬유는 약 22 g/㎡의 기초 중량 및 약 0.10 g/㎤의 밀도를 갖는 부직 스펀본디드 웹을 형성하였다. 본디드 카디드 웹으로 이루어진 서지 처리 층을 일정 패턴의 고온 용융 접착제를 사용하여 상부 시트의 신체측 표면에 부착시켰다. 서지 처리 재료의 폭은 약 10.16 cm(4 인치)였으며, 기저귀의 전체 길이를 따라 연장되었다. 기저귀는 그 밖에도 미합중국 특허 출원 제07/757,760호에 기재된 봉쇄 플랩, 다리 탄성 부재, 탄성 허리띠 등을 포함하였다. 사용 시험에 사용된 서지 처리층은 2 성분 섬유를 함유한 본디드 카디드 웹 부직포였다. 이 부직포는 약 50 g/㎡의 총 기초 중량과 약 0.03 g/㎤의 총 복합체 밀도를 가졌다. 2층 복합체는 섬도가 약 1.8-3 데니어인 폴리에틸렌/폴리에스테르(PE/PET) 외장 코어 이 성분 섬유 100%로 이루어진, 15 g/㎡의 기초 중량을 갖는 제1 신체측 층을 함유하였다. 복합체의 제2 외부측 층은 2성분 섬유와 1성분 섬유의 혼합물로 이루어진, 35 g/㎡의 기초 중량을 갖는 층으로 이루어졌다. 2성분 섬유는 외부측 층의 약 40 중량%를 형성하였다. 더욱 구체적으로, 외부측 층의 35 중량%는 평 크림프를 갖는 1.5 데니어의 폴리에틸렌/폴리프로필렌(PE/PP) 외장 코어 섬유로 이루어졌고, 5 중량%는 나선형 크림프를 갖는 2 데니어의 PE/PP 외장 코어 섬유로 이루어졌다. 단일 성분 섬유는 외부측 층의 약 60 중량%를 형성하였고 평 크림프 구조의 6 데니어의 폴리에스테르 섬유이었다. 여러가지 사용 시험에 사용된 기저귀의 특정한 흡수 코어 디자인 특징을 사용 시험 결과와 함께 표 3에 기재하였다.
사용 시험은 다음 방법으로 수행하였다. 1백명의 어린 아이(50명의 남아와 50명의 여아)를 모집하였다. 각각의 어린이의 시청 보조원에 사용 시험할 각 초흡수성 재료를 함유하는 기저귀를 10개 제공하였다. 즉, 시험 보조원에 사용 시험할 각기 코드로 된 기저귀를 10개 제공하였다. 시험 보조원들에게 정상적인 조건하에서 2일간에 걸쳐 각 코드의 기저귀 10개를 사용하고 각각의 기저귀가 새는지 여부를 말하도록 지시하였다. 분변을 함유한 기저귀는 데이타 평가시 고려대상에서 제외시켰다. 총 1,000개의 기저귀를 각각의 초흡수성 재료의 시료로 사용하였다.
각종 시료의 성능 평가는 동일한 사용 시험에서 대조용 기저귀에 대한 시험 기저귀의 상대적인 누출을 기준으로 하였다. 상이한 어린 아기에서 상이한 시기에 수행된 사용 시험은 종종 상이한 절대 누출값을 제공하기 때문에 주어진 사용 시험에서 대조용과 비교한 상대적인 결과가 시험되는 초흡수체의 유효성에 대한 더 대표성 있는 지표이다. 사용 시험간의 비교는 매우 가변적일 수 있다. 각각의 사용 시험에서 대조용은 시료 Q이었다.
기저귀 누출 시험의 결과를 아래 표 3에 기재하였다. 표 3의 데이타는 5개의 별도 사용 시험으로 나누어 기재하였고, 누출 기저귀의 총수를 전체 기저귀수(반드시 분변을 함유한 기저귀는 제외시킴)로 나누기한 값인 전체 누출 백분율(전체 누출(%))을 기재하였다. 0 내지 300 ㎖에서의 누출 백분율(300 ㎖ 누출(%))은 분변 및 300 ㎖를 초과하는 뇨 적재를 함유하는 기저귀를 제외하여 측정하였다. 기저귀내에 존재하는 액의 양을 조사하기 위해, 1 ㎖를 1 g과 동일한 것으로 가정하고, 사용한 기저귀를 계랑하고 주어진 기저귀 형태의 평균 기저귀 중량에 비교하여 하중을 결정하였다. 기록된 0-300 ㎖ 누출 데이타는 누출된 잔여 기저귀수를 잔여 기저귀수로 나누기하여 계산되었다. 마지막으로, 기저귀를 뇨 0 내지 90 ㎖ 함유하는 기저귀, 뇨 91 내지 180 ㎖를 함유하는 기저귀 및 뇨 181 내지 270 ㎖를 함유하는 기저귀로 분류하였다. 각각의 범주(90 ㎖ 누출(%), 180 ㎖ 누출(%), 270 ㎖ 누출(%))에서 기록된 누출 데이타는 각각의 범주 내의 누출된 기저귀수를 측정하고 이 값을 각각의 범주의 총 기저귀수로 나누기하여 계산하였다.

표 3에서 알 수 있는 바와 같이, 사용 시험 1 및 2는 대체로 본 발명에 의한 흡수성 복합체가 본 발명의 초흡수성 재료외의 초흡수성 재료를 사용한 흡수성 복합체보다 성능이 우수함을 나타내고 있다. 본 발명의 발명자들은 가장 양호한 성능 척도가 전체 누출(%), 300 ㎖ 누출(%) 및 180 ㎖ 누출(%)인 것으로 믿고 있다. 180 ㎖ 누출(%)는 기저귀가 2번째 방뇨를 받는 것과 관련이 있는 것으로 여겨진다.따라서, 본 발명의 범위 밖의 흡수성 복합체는 90 ㎖ 하중(1회 방뇨) 미만에서는 기능을 잘 수행할 수 있으나, 2번째 방뇨에 대해서는 본 발명의 흡수성 복합체에 비해 일반적으로 처리 기능이 떨어졌다.
사용 시험 3은 본 발명의 흡수성 복합체의 사용과 성능 사이의 양호한 상관 관계를 보이지 못하고 있다. 본 발명의 발명자들은 이런 결과가 흡수성 복합체의 비교적 높은 밀도(0.32 g/㎤)에 기인한 것으로 믿는다. 유사하게, 사용 시험 4도 양호한 상관 관계를 보여주지 못하고 있다.
본 명세서에 기재된 PAI 값을 갖는 초흡수성 재료를 사용하는 것의 중요성이 흡수성 복합체 내 초흡수성 재료의 농도가 증가함에 따라 더 커진다고 여겨진다.이는 사용 시험 2가 PAI와 성능 사이의 비교적 밀접한 관계를 나타냈으며, 약 51중량%의 초흡수성 재료를 함유하는 흡수성 복합체를 사용하였다는 사실에 의해 입증되는 것으로 보인다. PAI와 성능 사이의 비교적 덜 밀접한 관계를 보여주는 사용 시험들은 대개 약 45 내지 46 중량%의 초흡수성 재료를 보유하는 흡수성 복합체를 사용하였다.
실시예 2
미합중국 노스 캐롤라이나주 그린스보로 소재의 스톡하우젠사, 미합중국 미시간주 미들랜드 소재의 다우 케미칼사 및 미합중국 버지니아주 포츠머쓰 소재의 획스트 셀라니즈사로부터 초흡수성 재료를 입수하였다. 모든 초흡수성 재료는 아크릴산을 기재로 하였으며, 나트륨염이었다. 초흡수성 재료의 제조원, 상표명, 및 전반적인 조성을 하기 표 4에 기재하였다.

상기 표 4 및 5에 기재된 초흡수성 재료를 전반적으로 탄저(Tanzer) 등의 이름으로 본 출원과 동일자로 출원된 미합중국 특허 출원(대리인 참조 번호 10,312)에 기재된 구조를 갖는 일회용 기저귀에 포함시켰다. 보다 구체적으로, 사용 시험에 사용된 기저귀는 하기 구조를 가졌다.
기저귀들은 일반적으로 UltraTrim Step 3 기저귀 내에 사용된 흡수성 패드를 하기 보유부로 대체시킨 것을 제외하고는 시판 중인 HUGGIES?UltraTrim Step 3 기저귀들과 동일하였다.
보유부는 흡수성 라미네이트와 분배층을 포함하였다. 분배층은 전반적으로 UltraTrim Step 3 기저귀의 흡수성 패드(플러프와 초흡수체)와 치수가 동일하며 평균 기초 중량이 300 g/㎡인 T형 패드로 배열된 목재 펄프 섬유로 이루어졌다. 60 중량%의 목재 펄프 섬유를 분배층의 전반부(종방향)에 배치하고, 분배층을 평균 0.2 g/㎤이 되도록 압축하였다(13789.6 dynes/㎠(0.2 psi)의 하중을 가함). 분배 층의 전체 길이는 375 ㎜이었다. 기초 중량이 약 17 g/㎡인 셀룰로오스 티슈로 분배층 둘레를 감쌌다.
흡수성 라미네이트를 분배층의 상부(착용자의 신체에 보다 근접한 부분)에 배치하였다. 흡수성 라미네이트는 기초 중량이 17 g/㎡인 폭 140 ㎜의 하부 셀룰로오스 티슈층을 포함하였다. 하부 티슈층 상에 9 g의 초흡수성 재료와 0.5 g의 목재펄프 섬유를 기상 형성시켜 제2도 및 3도에 도시된 바와 같은 무늬가 있는 영역으로 만들었다. 각각의 포켓은 둥근 연부를 가졌으며 약 25 ㎜의 길이와 12 ㎜의 너비를 가졌다. 제2도 및 3도에서 알 수 있는 바와 같이, 대다수의 포켓은 길이(보다 긴 치수)가 제품의 종방향과 일치하였다. 제품의 종방향을 따라 인접한 포켓들의 등근 단부들은 서로 6-7 ㎜ 떨어져 있었다. 제품의 횡방향(종방향에 수직인 방향)으로는 포켓들이 약 6-7 ㎜의 간격으로 떨어져 있었다. 포켓을 함유하는 무늬진 영역의 전체 길이는 280 ㎜이었다. 제3도에 도시된 바와 같이 무늬진 영역은 분배층의 전방 연부로부터 약 25 ㎜ 지점에서 시작되어 기저귀의 전면쪽으로 배치되었다. 기초 중량이 21 g/㎡인 폭 140 ㎜의 상부 셀룰로오스 티슈층에 약 15 g/㎡의 Cycloflek 70-3998 고온 용융 접착제(미합중국 뉴저지주 브리지워터 소재의 내쇼널 스타치 앤드 케미칼사(National Starch and Chemical Co.)에 의해 시판 중임)를 균일한 소용돌이로 분무하고 하부 셀룰로오스 티슈에 접착시켰다. 보유부의 전체 길이는 375 ㎜이었다.
생성된 보유부를 0.0318 ㎜(1.25 mil) 두께의 폴리에틸렌 필름(실시예 1에서 사용된 것과 동일)으로 이루어진 배면 시트와 폴리프로필렌 섬유의 친수화 스펀본드 웹으로 이루어진 상부 시트 사이에 샌드위치시켰다. 상부 시트 재료는 기저귀의 배면 시트와 실질적으로 동일한 넓이를 갖는 크기이며, 섬도가 약 2.9-3.3 데니어 범위인 폴리프로필렌 섬유로 이루어졌다. 이 섬유는 기초 중량이 약 22 g/㎡인 부직 스펀본디드 웹을 형성하였다. 본디드 카디드 웹으로 이루어진 서지 처리 층을 고온 용융 접착제 패턴을 이용하여 상부 시트의 신체측 표면에 부착시켰다. 서지처리 재료는 실시예 1에서 사용된 것과 동일하였으며 폭이 약 102 ㎜이고 기저귀의 전체 길이를 따라 연장되었다. 기저귀는 그 밖에도 미합중국 특허 출원 제 07/757,760호에 기재된 봉쇄 플랩, 다리 탄성 부재, 탄성 허리띠 등을 포함하였다.
전술한 구조를 가지며 표 4 및 5에 기재된 초흡수체를 사용한 기저귀에 대해 실시예 1에 기재한 바와 같이 사용 시험을 행하였다. 기저귀 누출 시험 결과를 표 6에 기재하였다. 표 6의 데이타는 3가지 별도의 사용 시험으로 나누어 기재하였다. 표 6에 기재된 데이타는 표 3에 기재된 데이터와 동일한 유형이며 데이타 부제(데이타 유형)는 표 3 기재 데이타와 같고 동일한 의미를 갖는다.

표6을 참조하여 알 수 있는 바와 같이 사용 시험 6, 7 및 8은 대체로 본 발명에 의한 흡수성 복합체가 본 발명의 초흡수성 재료 이외의 것을 사용하는 흡수성 복합체보다 성능이 양호함을 나타낸다. 구체적으로 사용 시험 6의 기저귀 제1호, 4호 및 5호는 본 발명의 발명자들이 가장 우수한 성능 지표로 믿는 전체 누출(%), 300 ㎖ 누출(%) 및 180 ㎖ 누출(%)가 가장 높은 수치를 나타냈다. 이와 유사하게, 사용 시험 7의 기저귀 제7호 및 사용 시험 8의 기저귀 제6호는 가장 높거나 거의 가장 높은 전체 누출(%), 300 ㎖에 누출(%) 및 180 ㎖ 누출(%)를 나타냈다.
사용 시험 7 및 8은 일정 범위의 가압 흡수성 지수 및 소용돌이 소멸 시간을 갖는 초흡수성 재료가 일반적으로 본 발명에 사용하기에 적당한 것임을 입증하고 있다. 추가로, 사용 시험 7의 기저귀 제4호와 5호 및 사용 시험 8의 기저귀 제3호 및 4호의 비교는 소용돌이 소멸 시간의 중요성을 설명하고 있다. 구체적으로, 상기 기저귀들에 사용된 초흡수성 재료는 대체적으로 동일한 가압 흡수성 지수(109.4 및 110.2)를 가졌다. 그러나, 사용 시험 7의 기저귀 제4호 및 사용 시험 8의 기저귀 제3호에 사용된 초흡수성 재료의 소용돌이 소멸 시간은 92초였다. 사용 시험 7의 기저귀 제5호 및 사용 시험 8의 기저귀 제4호에 사용된 초흡수성 재료의 소용돌이 소멸 시간은 12초였다. 표 6을 참조하여 알 수 있는 바와 같이 소용돌이 소멸 시간이 짧은 (12) 초흡수성 재료를 사용한 기저귀가 소용돌이 소멸 시간이 긴 초흡수성 재료를 갖는 기저귀보다 성능이 더 양호하였다.
사용 시험 7의 기저귀 제3호와 5호의 비교도 마찬가지로 소용돌이 소멸 시간의 중요성을 입증하고 있다. 사용 시험 시험 8의 기저귀 제2호와 제4호의 비교는 소용돌이 소멸 시간이 초흡수성 재료의 중요한 특성이라는 확신을 뒷받침하지도 반박하지도 못한다.
본 발명의 또 다른 실시태양들은 본 명세서에 기재된 본 발명의 상세한 설명 및 실시예를 고려함으로써 당 업계의 통상의 지식을 가진 자들에게 명백해질 것이다. 본 발명의 상세한 설명 및 실시태양은 단지 예시적인 것으로 여겨져야 하며 본 발명의 진정한 범위 및 취지는 첨부된 특허청구의 범위에 기재되어 있다.

  1. 초흡수성 재료를 보유하기 위한 보유 수단과,
    이 보유 수단에 보유된, 가압 흡수성 지수가 100 이상이고 16시간 추출가능물 함량이 13 중량% 미만인 초흡수성 재료로 이루어지고, 상기 초흡수성 재료가 상기 보유 수단과 초흡수성 재료의 전체 중량을 기준으로 30 내지 100 중량%의 양으로 상기 보유 수단 내에 존재하는, 일회용 흡수성 가먼트에 사용하기에 적합한 흡수성 복합체.
  2. 제1항에 있어서,
    상기 초흡수성 재료가 상기 보유 수단과 초흡수성 재료의 전체 중량을 기준으로 40 내지 100 중량%의 양으로 상기 보유 수단 내에 존재하는 흡수성 복합체.
