Abstract

PURPOSE:To recognize the type of sheets of paper housed in a paper cassette by changing the placing pattern of an actuator and changing the detecting pattern of a sensor. CONSTITUTION:When a paper cassette 11 is to be installed, an actuator unit 12 is moved to the position corresponding to the type of the sheets of paper housed in the cassette 11 and the installation is carried out. And, at the time of installing this paper cassette, a sensor 13 recognizes the type of the sheets of paper with the detecting pattern peculiar to the type of the housed sheets of paper. For example, a detecting pattern in which a microswitch 33c is engaged with a recessed part 27 being kept off while microswitches 33a, 33b are engaged with a projecting part 25 being turned on, is effected and this detecting pattern is changed when the unit 12 is moved. That is, a detecting pattern peculiar to the type of sheets of paper can be effected by moving the unit 12 to the position corresponding to the type of the housed sheets of paper and installing the cassette, enabling the recognition of the type of sheets of paper while notifying the recognized result to a device body.
