Abstract

PURPOSE:To measure strain of an object with ease and with high accuracy, by obtaining a reference plane by a strain gauge from coordinates of optional three points on a surface to be measured thereby to calculate the distance between a desired point on the surface of the object and the reference plane by a predetermined formula. CONSTITUTION:A strain gauge 1 is comprised of a fixed frame 4 mounted on the surface of a shell flange 2 of an object to be measured, and a rotary frame 6 provided with a dial gauge 48. For measuring the strain of the object, optional three points Pa, Pb and Pc on the surface of the object are measured to obtain a reference plane T by an equation: ax+by+cz+d=0. Thereafter, a desired point on the surface of the object to be measured, e.g., Pn(xn, yn, zn) is measured to calculate the strain h by an equation: h=(ax+by+cz+ d)/(a<2>+b<2>+c<2>)<1/2>. Accordingly, in comparison with the prior arts, it becomes unnecessary to center the strain gauge 1 so precisely, and moreover, the strain can be measured in a short time with high accuracy.
