Abstract

PURPOSE:To maintain an extraction rate of carbon dioxide produced at a high level even at a low reaction temperature, by winding a heating section with a reaction tube having a resistance or the like in the course to allow heating on the downstream side of a resistance tube. CONSTITUTION:A sample water 1 is mixed with a reaction liquid 2, fed to a deaerator 3 to remove a dissolved carbon dioxide and sent to a reactor 4 where the temperature of a sample is raised above 100 deg.C to convert an organic substance in the sample water into carbon dioxide by oxidation. A heater 7 in the reactor 4 is wound with a reaction tube 8 connected to a resistance tube 9 subject to a pressure higher than the steam pressure of water at a set temperature so that the sample water exists still in liquid even above 100 deg.C upstream from the resistance tube 9. As the internal pressure of a reaction tube 8-b downstream from the resistance tube 9 is a normal pressure, the sample water is turned to steam and a liquid drop by vaporization heat and hence, a portion on the downstream side 8-b of the reaction tube is also heated so that the most of the sample water is sent to a gas-liquid separator as steam. The carbon dioxide produced is extracted by a carrier gas and sent to a detector 6 to detect the density thereof.
