For example, different signal colors are required for taillights or brake lights on the one hand, and for flashing lights on the other hand. Such different signal colors can be provided on the same total light emitting surface according to the arrangement according to the invention. Furthermore, the arrangement according to the invention has the advantage that the optical impression of the motor vehicle is not impaired by the presence of a large number of different diffusing lenses. This is because the six display states used (
This is because, in the unexcited state, a light emitting diode with three phases (hereinafter referred to as three-phase) has a white or transparent appearance, for example similar to the color of an adjacent headlight or reversing light. Therefore, no expensive equipment is required to generate white or transparent colors in the car signal light.

Three-phase light emitting diodes are commercially available that emit red and green or red and yellow, depending on which anode lead is supplied with voltage. Furthermore, when two AND's are energized at the same time, a color mixture takes place, resulting in yellow, for example, as a mixture of red and green. In this case, in addition to the conventional indicator devices that use red lights as taillights or brake lights or yellow lights as flashing lights, it is also possible to provide a driving state indicator that emits, for example, a green light. This driving state indicating device indicates to a following vehicle that the preceding vehicle is in a non-braking state or in a braking preparation state.

である。An advantageous embodiment of the motor vehicle lighting device according to the invention is carried out as follows. That is, instead of discrete light emitting diodes, a large number of light emitting diode chips are arranged in a matrix on a common substrate. In this case, it is advantageous to arrange the light emitting diode chip on the reflective coating surface of the substrate. This is because in this case the light emission is particularly strong in the desired direction. The arrangement of one light-emitting diode chip on a common substrate is advantageous in terms of production technology than the use of individual discrete light-emitting diodes and therefore simplifies the overall construction of the lighting device according to the invention. And it can be done cheaply. Said reflective coating surface can be formed by a vapor-deposited or sputtered metal coating surface, preferably an aluminum coating surface. This is better known than other mirror coating surfaces for automotive lighting.

A common transparent plastic layer, preferably made of polyester or silicone resin, is used as a protective coating for the light-emitting diodes arranged in the basin-shaped recesses of the substrate. In order to achieve special light-diffusion effects, the surface of the transparent plastic layer described can be formed into knots, warts or other shapes. However, it is advantageous for the defined light diffusion for each case to be effected by a separate diffusion lens arranged above the plastic layer.

The three-phase light emitting diodes juxtaposed in one row are all connected in parallel to the first series connection.

It is advantageous to use individual elements for small series connections of special lighting devices. This is suitable for areas where only a small amount of dirt is likely to occur. □-The individual elements cannot be coated in common without impairing the desired diffusion effect, but in some cases a common coating can be provided.

The lighting surfaces 41, 42, 43 are configured, for example, as taillights, flashing lights, brake lights, and the lighting surface 44 forms, for example, a reversing light. Since the white reversing light does not detract from the aesthetic appearance of colorless or white lights, and there are no great requirements placed on the reversing light in terms of performance, in this embodiment, the light emitting diode areas 41 to 43 and the rear A device combining a conventional light emitting area 44 with an incandescent lamp may be provided. Due to the above-mentioned reliable functions of this light-emitting diode device, a significant technological advance is achieved, as well as the aesthetic effect of lighting devices constructed from colorless components. That is, even if an individual firing diode fails, the device as a whole does not lose much of its performance. This also applies when individual incandescent light bulbs fail. Therefore, with the lighting device according to the invention, not only a variable signaling function is obtained, but also safety is substantially increased.

This creates a lamp effect with strong light intensity. The reason for this is that there is no need to juxtapose various lamp sections to generate different lamp colors, and the entire lamp surface can be used for light emission.
