Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a high-quality support for a lithographic printing plate, excellent in its strength, by cold-rolling a hot-dip Al-coated steel sheet with a dull roll and then a bright roll so as to completely eliminate ruggedness of spangles and recesses at grain boundaries.
CONSTITUTION: After pretreatment is applied to a cold-rolled steel sheet 2a in a reducing oven 6, the steel sheet 2a is plated in a molten Al bath 7 containing 1W10% of Si. The obtained plated steel sheet 11 is cold-rolled with a dull roll, and then further cold-rolled at a total reduction rate of 30W85% with a bright roll. Thus, an objective support which holds an Al layer 4 having a thickness of 7μ or more in the plated layer 1 on its one surface is obtained.
