Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the malfunction of an idling speed controlling device by a method wherein the controlling of the idling speed is performed only when the engine speed is below the upper limit of the idling speed stored in an ROM under the condition that the detected shifting lever position is in the D range.
CONSTITUTION: The engine under running is judged to be in the idling state, when a controlling circuit 3 is under the conditions described as follows: i.e. the idling switch 9 of a throttle valve 8 is on, a car speed sensor 6 represents the car speed to be zero, a shifting lever switch 5 does not indicate that the shifting lever is in the D range. On the other hand, the engine is also judged with a micro processing unit to be in the idling state, even if the shifting lever switch 5 indicates that the shifting lever is in the drive range, when the resultant value of the output of a rotation sensor 10 inputted in the controlling circuit 3 through an analog-to-digital converter is below the upper limit value of the idling speed stored in the ROM. At that time, the MPU controls the opening degree of the throttle valve 8 by means of a stepping motor 12 so that the throttle valve 8 produces the optimum idle running state in accordance with the engine parameters.
