Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a water-based ink having excellent water-resistance and suitable for writing utensils, printing, recording instrument, stamp, etc., by mixing an oil-soluble dye obtained by the acid esterification of a specific compound and a saccharide, with a particular water-soluble organic solvent and water.
CONSTITUTION: The objective water-based ink is prepared by mixing (A) a colorant consisting of an oil-soluble dye obtained by the acid esterification of the compound of formulaI(R is alkyl; X is aryl; Y is H, halogen, OH or alkyl) (e.g. the compound of formula II) with a saccharide (or its derivative), and optionally other oil-soluble dyes, (B) a water-soluble organic solvent having a dielectric constant of ≥8 and a boiling point of 80W300°C (e.g. tetrahydrofurfuryl alcohol) and (C) water. The amounts of the components (A), (B) and (C) are pref. 0.3W15wt% 1W45wt%, and 35W85wt%, respectively.
EFFECT: Low toxixity and odor.
