Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the yield of ingot making and reuse a teeming pipe and runners by feeding a high pressure gas through the teeming pipe upon ending of the teeming work of a conventional bottom pouring ingot making method thereby expelling residual molten metal.
CONSTITUTION: After the end of teeming of molten metal 4, a gas pipe 7 is connected to the inlet of the upper part of a teeming pipe 1, and an inert gas or air supplied under constant pressure from a constant pressure supply pipe 8 is reduced and regulated to prescribed pressure with a constant pressure regulating valve 9 or the like, and is fed into the pipe 11 through a gas pipe 7. The molten metal remained in the pipe 1 and a runner 2 is forcibly fed to near the final end of the runner 2 by a high pressure gas 11 and enters the inside of a mold 3. If in this state the molten metal 4 is kept still and is cooled to solidify, the remaining and solidifying of the molten metal in the pipe 1 and the runner 2 are obviated and almost all of the teemed molten metal is utilized effectively as a steel ingot.
