Abstract

PURPOSE:To stabilize the liquid face level of molten metal at the coil side, by supplying the molten metal in electromagnetic field by syphon method and carrying out the regulation of head pressure of the molten metal in the electromagnetic field on the tundish side at the electromagnetic casting. CONSTITUTION:Molten metal in No. 1 tundish 6 is poured in No. 2 tundish 8 through the float 7. The valve 12 leading to the vessel 9, is opened and inactive gas, such as N2 etc., is introduced pressurized and then, the molten metal 14 is flowed on the coil 11 from the pipe 10. At the same time, height of the tundish 8 is lowered about several meters and the inner part 13 of the vessel 9 is opened. Then, liquid face of the tundish 8 is made wide and molten metal level in the coil 11 is kept stable. The metal 14 flowed on the coil 11, is cooled by cooling water from the cooling apparatus 15 and is solidified while maintaining in cylindrical pillar shape by electromagnetic force of the coil 11. By the above method, the steel ingot 16 having a uniform diameter, is able to manufacture stably.
