Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable detection of flaws on the surface of a slab in red-hot glowing state with a cooling means provided on a probe. CONSTITUTION:Rollers 110 are provided before and after a box body 11q of a probe 11p in such a manner as to turn in contact with the surface of a slab. A plurality of rectangular detection coils 11c are arranged on the circumference of one circle like a sector separated by an equal angle to form one probe unit 113. The detection coils 11c are changed lengthwise separately to make the flaw detection sensitivity nondirectional thereby enabling the detection of the flaws in a constant sensitivity regardless of the direction thereof. A cylindrical seat 116 is provided on the top surface of the box body 11q concentric to a hole 11a through which a signal cable 114 is inserted to be connected to an exciting coil. A flexible pipe 115 screwed to a connecting tube 117 screwed down to the cylindrical seat 116 through a filler 116a and a rubber packing 116. A cooling water is fed into the box body 11q via a branch tube 118 provided between the side of the connecting tube 117 and the top surface of the box body 11q.
