Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the accuracy and safety of inspection by mechanically elevatably mounting the flaw detecting apparatus to the vertical pipe to be inspected.
CONSTITUTION: Pipe-sandwiching rollers 16 are mounted to the outer side of a box-form frame 15 which houses a travelling device 14 consisting of drive rollers 12 and endless belt 13 to constitute a self-travelling body 17. In the lower part of this is connected by means of a connector 25 the flaw detecting apparatus 11 which is mounted with transmitting and receiving probes 6, 7 position changeably between two sets of holders 1, 1. Then, if the self-travelling body 17 is assembled to the vertical pipe 4 to be inspected and if ultrasonic waves are projected toward the receiving probe 7 from the transmitting probe 6 while said body is being mechanically moved upward or down through remote operation, the flaw detecting apparatus 11 changes the circumferential and vertical positions of the vertical pipe 4 to be inspected and the vertical pipe 4 to be inspected is subjected to multipoint flaw inspection around the same over the entire length thereof.
