Abstract

PURPOSE:To realize the picture processing with a high quality by giving an A/D conversion to the picture signal with the number of quantizing bits of A/D conversion which is larger than the number of bits of the necessary output. CONSTITUTION:A photoelectric conversion is given to the information of original through a solid state scanner CCD1 functioning as a solid state scanning element. The original information is amplified up to a prescribed level by an amplifier 2 and then converted into the 6-bit digital signals A1-A6 through an A/D converter 3. Then the signals A1-A6 are supplied to an ROM4, i.e., a decoder and then shifted to the 4-bit digital signals D1-D4 with use of the 2-bit control signals X and Y. Thus an A/D conversion is carried out with 6 bits having a larger number of digits than the output bits D1-D4, and the ROM4 is controlled with the signals X and Y to designate the extent of shift of the output bits. As a result, an operator, etc. can obtain the outut signals D1-D4 with an optional extent of shift.
