Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as a hardening agent for epoxy resins, etc. without containing colored components, by reacting hexamethylenediamine with glycolonitrile in an organic solvent, adding an acid to the reaction mixture, and separating the titled compound as a salt thereof.
CONSTITUTION: Hexamethylenediamine is reacted with glycolonitrile at a molar ratio of 1:2W2.5 in an organic medium, e.g. methanol, in an amount of 1W50 times that of the raw material hexamethylenediamine. The reaction mixture is then mixed with an acid, e.g. hydrochloric, sulfuric or nitric acid, to separate a salt of hexamethylenebisiminoacetonitrile. The resultant salt is then neutralized with an alkali to give the hexamethylenebisiminoacetonitrile.
EFFECT: The salt of the titled compound is snow white, stable in a dry state and storable in the state. According to the preparing method, the amied compound of high purity can be readily isolated without requiring troublesome purifying steps.
