Abstract
PURPOSE:To efficiently couple an optical fiber and an optical waveguide, by constituting so that a light beam emitted from the optical fiber is condensed by a cylindrical lens and is made incident to the end of the optical waveguide. CONSTITUTION:2 V-grooves 3, 4 meeting at right angles with each other are formed on a supporting base consisting of a silicon single crystal of surface bearing (100) by using an SiO2 film 2 as a mask and by means of etching, and an optical fiber 5 and a cylindrical lens 6 are fixed to the V-groove 3 and the V-groove 4, respectively, and also a chip 8 which has formed an optical waveguide 8 is provided on the supporting base 1 so that its end becomes in parallel with the center line of the lens 6. A round near view image of a beam emitted from the optical fiber 5 is converted to a flat form being almost same as a near view image of the optical waveguide 8, and is made incident efficiently to the end of the optical waveguide.
