Abstract

PURPOSE: To suppress the deformation of steel material within a specified range and to reduce the amt. of cooling water by providing plural nozzle rows forming screen-like sprays at prescribed intervals in te direction intersecting orthogonally with the advancing direction of the steel materials.
CONSTITUTION: Plural upper cooling water pipes 51, 52, 53, and lower cooling water pipes 61, 62, 63 are eisposed in parallel in the direction orthogonally with the advancing direction of a steel material 1 and uniform and continuous screen- like sprays of the unified angle of broad angle spraying are formed by the nozzles 4 disposed to each of these. The intervals La between the spray nozzle rows in the advance direction of the material 1 are regulated at La ≤Vv (Lv is the space between the nozzles 4 and the material 1). By this mechanism, a uniform rate of cooling is applied to the material 1 with less amt. of water and the bending deformation of the steel material is prevented.
