Abstract

PURPOSE: An electrochromic display element with good memorizability, quick response and a prolonged life, prepd. by using a display electrode composed of a Prussian blue membrane as an electrochronic material.
CONSTITUTION: In an electrochromic element in which a display electrode provided on a transparent electrode and consisting of an electrochromic material membrane and an opposite electrode are coutacted with an electrolyte, a Prussian blue membrane of thickness 300W3,000Å is used as the electrochromic material membrane. The electrochromic display element using the Prussian blue membrane has excellent memorizability and response. Further it has a repeating life of more than 106 times, mearly the same as that of an electrochromic element using as a display electrode a membrane of a transition metal oxide such as WO3 and a replating life much more excellent than that of an electrochromic element using a viologen deriv. of 104W105.
