Abstract

PURPOSE: To realize the stable bright display of long life, easy to see with little uneven color and change with time in a beautiful blue color, by using an iron hexacyanoferrate as an electrochemical coloring substance.
CONSTITUTION: An electrochromic display apparatus is constituted of a display electrode 1 coated with a layer of an iron hexacyanoferrate[formulaIin the colored state and formula II (M+ is monovalent cation) in the decolored state] as an electrochemical coloring substance, a counter electrode separated from the electrode 1 and an electrolyte 4 on contact with both electrodes. The counter electrode is most preferably an electrode coated with the iron hexacyanoferrate in the same manner as in the display electrode 1.
USE: Output apparatuses of small sized information apparatuses, e.g. wristwatches or electronic calculators.
