Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain a stable electrochromic display element easy to enlarge and free from the contamination of the display electrode due to the damage of the opposite electrode by using an electrically conductive material having a formed Prussian blue film as the opposite electrode to enhance the shock resistance. CONSTITUTION:An electrically conductive material 12 for the opposite electrode of an electrochromic display (ECD) element is immersed in a soln. contg. 0.05M/l each of FeCl3 and potassium ferricyanide to form a Prussian blue film 10 on the surfaces of the material 12 in <=10mum thickness, and it is electrolytically reduced in an auqeous soln. contg. 1M/l KCl to manufacture an opposite electrode. A lead wire 11 is attached to the electrode. By setting this opposite electrode 5 on a rear substrate 4, an ECD element is assembled. As the material 12 a metallic sheet or net of Ni or the like or a nonwoven fabric of carbon fiber is used. Thus, by the reversible oxidizability-reducibility and the film forming property of Prussian blue an ECD element having a long repeated coloring and decoloring life and superior durability is obtd., and the opposite electrode 5 has high shock resistance.
