Abstract
PURPOSE: To improve the image display contrast by digital image signal and visual recognition, by selectively applying electric fields in the form of picture image to every one of multiple ultrafine recesses, and varying the direction of orientation of fine particles in the form of thin slice in the inside.
CONSTITUTION: Fine particles 2 in the form of thin slice having high reflectance responding to electric field, made from conductive material such as iron and nickel, are suspended in a solution 3 having a high boiling point, proper viscosity, and similar specific gravity as thin slice fine particles 2, and are sealed in each ultrafine recess 1b. Then, a recording head 7 is made to contact with the side of back 1c of display plate 10, and while moving it at a constant speed in the direction of arrow B, pulse voltages are applied selectively in the form of picture image to each electrode 7a, and an electric field in the direction orthogonal to the back 1c of thin slice 1 is generated between the electrodes and transparent conductive layer 5a, then fine particles 2 in corresponding ultrafine recess part 1b rotate about 90° to absorb light, so that such part becomes dark. Therefore, a clear image 6 in dot form may be obtained. When electric field is applied in the direction of arrow H, the image 6 is erased.
