Abstract
PURPOSE:To enable automatic detection of an object and its high speed tracking, by selecting one which has the highest correlation among a plurality of objects selected from a complicated background and catching it across a plurality of frames through duplicated threshold value processing. CONSTITUTION:A video signal in each region splitting 8 a picked-up picture 6 into alpha and beta pieces in parallel and vertical with the scanning line, and a video signal of referenced screen stored in a memory 10, are inputted to a multiplication/addition circuit 11, and the maximum value of the correlation coefficient at two dimension scanning is detected 12 and the i-set in ascending order, e.g., 3 regions are selected 13. Next, in the three regions extended 14 toward parallel and vertical direction with the scanning line, the reference screen is scanned and one region with the maximum correlation coefficient is selected 13, j-set, e.g., 5 sets of correlated screens continuously inputted in this region are scanned for the reference screen, and the 5 sets of maximum correlation coefficients and the set threshold value are compared 15. If the number exceeding the threshold value is in excess of the predetermined number, the tracking window is automatically set 16 with a lock-on signal, and the coordinates giving the maximum value of the correlation coefficient are detected 19 for tracking point.
