Abstract

NEW MATERIAL:A compound of the formula (R1 is lower alkyl, alkenyl, aralkyl; R2 is lower alkyl, alkenyl, aralkyl, H; R3 is acyl, H).
EXAMPLE: 5-Methyl-20-O-acetylcamptothecin.
USE: It has carcinostatice activity and is used as a medicine or its intermediate.
PREPARATION: Camptothencin or its derivative is made to react with a compound of RX (R is lower alkyl, alkenyl, aralkyl; X is halogen, sulfonic ester) using a base that form a carbanion in the 5-position of camptothecin or its derivative such as 20-O-acylcamptothecin to give the compound of the formula. The reaction is preferably effected in DMF or DMSO using a base such as NaH or BuLi.
