Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a lithium-contg. grease compsn. in which wear resistance, high-temperature viscosity and water resistance are improved, containing a base oil for lubricating oil and Li salt or mixed Li and Ca salt of a hydroxy-fatty acid, an aliph. dicarboxylic acid and a polycarboxylic acid. CONSTITUTION:The titled grease compsn. contains a base oil for lubricating oil and lithium salt or mixed lithium and calcium salt of 1-20wt% 12-24C hydroxy-fatty acid (A), 0.5-20wt% 2-12C aliph. dicarboxylic acid (B) and 0.3-10wt% 36-54C polycarboxylic acid (C). The base oil for lubricating oil and said components A, B and C are mixed together with heating. Then lithium hydroxide or lithium hydroxide and calcium hydroxide is/are added to the mixture. Pref. in the saponification stage, the temp. during the addition of the alkali should be kept 80 deg.C or lower. It is necessary to conduct the saponification stage by adding lithium hydroxide or lithium hydroxide and calcium hydroxide together in the form of a 30wt% or more concentrated aq. soln.
