Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a filler having excellent gloss, dispersibility and affinity with various materials, by heat-treating heavy CaCo3 powder in the presence of an inorg. acid and coating the powder with an unsaturated carboxylic acid.
CONSTITUTION: 0.2W5pts.wt. (calculated as inorg. acid) aq. soln. (20W50% concn.) of an inorg. acid such as sulfuric acid is added to 100pts.wt. heavy CaCO3 powder. The mixt. is heat-treated at 80W110°C for 5W60min to form the layer of a Ca salt of the inorg. acid on the surface of the CaCO3 powder. Then 0.3W5.0pts.wt. unsaturated carboxylic acid such as (meth)acrylic acid is added to 100pts.wt. above CaCO3 powder. Mixing is conducted ar 20W40°C for 5W80min to cover the surface of the powder with the layer of a Ca salt of the unsaturated carboxylic acid.
