Abstract
PURPOSE: An inorganic coating composition that is prepared by adding an aqueous solution of alkali silicate to a powder of inorganic glass composition, thus being curable at low curing temperatures or room temperature and excellent in resistance to durability, heat, water and chemicals.
CONSTITUTION: An inorganic glass composition prepared by melting metals, their oxides, hydroxides, or salts selected from groups II, III, IV, and V in the periodic table is mixed with an aquous solution of alkali silicate, or, when necessary, a mixture thereof with a phosphate salt as a reaction regulator to produce said inorganic coating composition. The components with the most favorable effect among metal components in the composition is lead oxide followed by zink, tin, and barium oxides. In the composition, the metal components dissolving out of the composition react with the alkali silicate to solidify and the undissolving residues act as aggregation for coating films.
