Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a high tensile steel for low temp. use having high rupture toughness at its weld heat-affected zone adjacent to weld metal when high efficiency welding is applied, by adding a prescribed percentage each of C, Si, Mn, Cr, Ni and Al and restricting the content of each of P, S and N as impurities and the total amount of other impurities.
CONSTITUTION: The titled high tensile steel for low temp. use consists of ≤ 0.10% C, ≤0.60% Si, ≤1.6% Mn, 0.1W1.5% Cr, 0.2W10% Ni, 0.003W0.10% Al and the balance Fe with impurities. The contents of P, S and N among the impurities are essentially restricted to ≤0.015%, ≤0.0050% and ≤0.0050%, respectively, and the total amount of the other impurities is also regulated to ≤ 0.02%. As a result, by adding Cr to low N steel, a superior synergistic effect of Cr and less N is shown to provide an improved structure to the high tensile steel.
