Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled novel composition having specific structural formula, physical properties, low viscosity, and high heat resistance, etc., and useful as a solventless paint, by reacting bis(hydroxyphenyl)ethane with an epihalohydrin, etc.
CONSTITUTION: The objective liquid epoxy resin having the structure of formula II (X is bivalent residue obtained by eliminating H from OH of the compound of formula I; n is number of recurring units) is prepared by reacting (1mol of) 1,1- bis(hydroxyphenyl)ethane of formula I with (pref. 45W40mol of) an epihalohydrin and/or a dihalohydrin. The value of the formula A×B/(A+B) of the product is 170W190, pref. 171W185, wherein A is epoxy equivalent and B is hydrolyzable halogen equivalent of the product.
EFFECT: The viscosity of the product is extremely low, i.e. 2,500W7,000cps at 25°C.
