Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform rust-preventive treatment of steel material to form coating which exhibits excellent rust-preventive performance in water, in the air, and in high temp. and high humidity atmosphere, by adjusting a mixed aqueous soln. contg. a benzotriazole and nitrosobenzoic acid to a neutral range with NH3 etc., then by treating steel material with the aqueous soln. CONSTITUTION:An aqueous soln. contg. 0.01-10wt% 1-hydroxybenzotriazole compound shown by formula I (e.g. 1-hydroxybenzotriazole) and 0.01-5wt% nitrosobenzoic acid shown by formula II is prepared. Said aqueous soln. is adjusted to 7-10pH with NH3, amines (e.g. monoethanolamine) etc., if necessary, an aqueous polymeric compound or surfactant is added to the aqueous soln. to form a rust-preventive fluid. The surface of steel material is treated with said rust-preventive fluid. The treated steel material may be subjected directly to necessary treatment such as painting without removing the rust-preventive agent prior to the following process.
