Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a rust preventive compsn. having a remarkable discoloring prevention effect to metal, esp. copper which compsn. contains at least one kind of cpd. selected from benzotriazol, etc. and their derivatives, and an amphoteric cpd. having a specific group in one molecule. CONSTITUTION:Metal is treated with a rust preventive compsn. contg. at least one kind of cpd. selected from benzotriazol, benzothiazol, etc. and their derivatives, pref. benzotriazol and one of amphoteric cpds. of formulae I-IV (where R is 8-14C alkyl, m=1 or 2, n=1 or 2, M is an alkali metal, pref. Na and R1 is hydrogen, Na or the like) at pH 5-9, pref. around the isoelectric point of the amphoteric cpd. to provide a remarkable discoloring prevention effect, i.e. rust prevention effect to the metal, esp. copper. Out of the above amphoteric cpds. an alkylmonoaranate of formula I or II is pref. diluted to below 1 wt% and used.
