Abstract
PURPOSE:To make the removal of clad easy by heating a cylindrical terminal member having a slender stepped hole of two inside diameters respectively nearly equal to the outside diameter of an optical fiber and the thermoplastic clad on the outside circumference thereof to above the softening point of the clad material, inserting said optical transmission body into said member, projecting the optical fiber from the opposite side and securing the same. CONSTITUTION:A cylindrical terminal member 1 having a slender stepped hole consisting of a hole 7 of an inside diameter nearly equal to the diameter of an optical fiber 3, and a hole 5 of an inside diameter nearly equal to the outside diameter of the clad 4 on the outside circumference thereof is beforehand heated to above the softening point of the clad material 4 of its transmission body 2, and the transmission body 2 is inserted into the stepped hole and is pushed in until the end of the optical fiber 8 projects from the opposite side. The member is then cooled and after the clad material 4 has solidified, a securing material 11 is filled in the spot-faced part 11 of the terminal member 8 to secure the end of the optical fiber 8. The end side thereof is then polished to an optical surface. Thereby, the clad optical fiber 3 may be removed of the clad easily without being broken and the terminal may be manufactured.
