Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a high-melting polyester having improved transparency and small content of diethylene glycol, by using a specific amount of ammonium sulfonate as a catalyst in polymerizing a bifunctional carboxylic acid (derivative) with ethylene glycol.
CONSTITUTION: 1×10-4W10×10-4 Equivalent mole ammonium sufonate, e.g., ammonium benzensulfonate, etc. shown by the formula [m is 1W3; n is 0W3; X is OR1 or COOR2 (R1 and R2 are H or lower alkyl) or halogen; Ar is aromatic group; R is H or alkyl or aryl] based on one mole acid ingredient is added to the polycondensation of a bifunctional carboxylic acid (derivative) consisting or consisting essentially of terephthalic acid and ethylene glycol (derivative) at high temperature under highly reduced pressure, to give the desired polyester.
USE: A molding material for a transparent film, bolt, etc.
