Abstract
PURPOSE: To produce a filler for chromatography with has superior separability and permits a quick analysis, by reacting a particular silane compound with a fine- grain porous carrier and then hydrolyzing the product.
CONSTITUTION: A fine-grain porous carrier with a hydroxyl group on its surface and a silane compound represented by formula I (wherein R1, R2 and R3 represent alkyl, alkoxy, halogen, hydroxyl or H, at least one of R1, R2 and R3 is alkoxy or halogen, R4 is a straight-chain or branched-chain hydrocarbon, R5 represents acetoxy, alkoxy or halogen) are reacted in a solvent inactive to the reactants. The reaction product obtained is hydrolyzed in water solvent in the presence of an acid or a salt. By this hydrolysis, the terminal group R5 of the silane compound combined with the porous carrier is changed into a hydroxyl group.
