Abstract
PURPOSE: To stabilize trimethoxysilane (T) with suppressed reaction of the unreacted methanol, by adding a specific amino acid to a reaction mixture comprising T obtained through the reaction of silicon with methanol.
CONSTITUTION: Silicon (S) is reacted with methanol (M) at a molar ratio of (S) to (M) of 1:1W50 in the presence of a copper catalyst and 0.001W1wt% of an amino acid of the formula (R is H, 1W20C alkyl, or 7W20C aralkyl), e.g. glycine or (phenyl)alanine, to form trimethoxysilane (T). The amino acid may be added to the distilled reaction mixture, or the reaction system together with methanol.
EFFECT: Suppressed formation of tetramethoxysilane and high yield.
