Abstract
PURPOSE: To perform perfect separation of normal rays and abnormal rays, in the two prisms which comprise uniaxial crystals and of which the planes parallel to optical axis are opposed to each other by way of a micro-space, by paralelling the normal rays and abnormal lays polarized and separated the rays incident by the Brewster angle by the opposite faces to each other and intersecting these orthogonally to light transmission faces.
CONSTITUTION: Prisms 10 and 20 are prisms of a triangular column or square column shape comprising TiO2 and the optical axes thereof are perpendicular to the plane of the figure. A thin air space interposes between their opposite faces C. With respect to the opposite faces C, the face 10A and face 20B are crossing at a Brewster angle θ. When natural light l enters, for example, the face 20A perpendicularly, it is separated to a normal ray lT and an abnormal ray LR on the opposite faces C. The normal ray is perfectly reflected twice within the prism 10 and is emitted in the direction normal to the face 10B. On the other hand, the abnormal ray LR is perfectly reflected twice in the prism 20 and is emitted in the direction parallel to lT and assuming right angle to the face 20B. Thereby, the normal rays and abnormal rays may be separated perfectly and the circulator using these may be made small in size and low in loss.
