Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the extremely good photo isolator by selectively combining two or three flat plate form double refractive crystals as well as magneto-optic materials and crystals having rotatory polarization or onisotropy.
CONSTITUTION: A lens 10, flat plate form double refractive crystals 11, 12, magneto-optic material 13 and crystal 14 having rotatory polarization or anisotropy are provided to the optical guide consisting of optical fibers 8, 9. The double refractive crystals 11, 12 have the function of performing separation and synthesis of normal light and abnormal light and are so installed that their optical axes are within the same plane. The material 13 exhibits Faraday effect through magnetization from the outside and its length is so determined that the deflection directions of incident light and exit light vary by 45°. The length of the crystal 14 is also so determined similarly as to vary these by 45°. Such constitution allows even the mutually orthogonally intersecting different polarized light to be entered from the fiber 8 to 9 without any loss and prohibits the incidence from the fiber 9 to 8, hence the extremely good photo isolator may be realized.
