Abstract

PURPOSE: The copolymerization of a diacrylate or dimethacrylate having an aromatic ring substituted with halogen other than fluorine with a radically polymerizable monomer having a aromatic ring produces the titled resin with good mechanical properties and high dimensional stability.
CONSTITUTION: A radically polymerizable monomer having an aromatic ring and preferably more than 1.55 refractive index such as styrene is combined with a diacrylate or dimethacrylate having an aromatic ring substituted with 1W4 halogen atoms other than fluorine (preferably bromine) such as 1,4-dimethacryloxy-2,3,5,6- tetrabromobenzene, preferably by 5W95wt% based on the above monomer. Then, a radical polymerization initiator such as benzoyl peroxide is added preferably by 0.0001W10wt% based on the total monomers and the polymerization is gradually started at room temperature to 70°C. Finally, on the completion of the polymerization, the polymer is cured at 80W120°C to produce the objective resin.
